ok so my check engine light came on the other day and so had scanned today and code came up (forgot which number) saying that its runnig rich. my cars a 07 speed 3 with 0 mods, 100% stock. for u guys with experience, whats possible causes, and or fixes??

O2 sensor failure
CT sensor failure
AIT sensor failure
MAF sensor leak or failure
Wiring/connectors to any of the above. The only ones that will throw a light for sure are MAF and O2.
Post turbo intake leak
PCV system malfunction
Spark plugs old/worn

Like just said, more info. If the car's running ok, start by disconnecting the battery and see if the code recurs. This, at least, will indicate if the problem is continuous.

i had a "running rich at idle" and i tryed everything nothing came up even on the computer scans so i just gave up on it untill i installed my test pipe it came off and hasent since feb.

Ok, change out your spark plugs, just for the hell of it. Also check all the boost side hoses (turbo to throttle body) for tightness. Then clear the code (disconnect battery for 10 minutes) then drive normally and see if it recurs.

These are the possible causes, from the FSM:

Exhaust gas leakage

Rear H02S malfunction

IAT sensor malfunction

ECT sensor malfunction

Front H02S malfunction

Excessive fuel line pressure

Fuel pressure sensor malfunction

Relief valve (built-in fuel delivery pipe) malfunction

Spill valve control solenoid valve (built-in high pressure fuel pump) malfunction

High pressure fuel pump malfunction

Fuel pump malfunction

Purge valve malfunction

Insufficient engine compression

PCM malfunction

The most likely candidates are O2 sensor malfunctions, since those parts are under the most stress, being blasted by exhaust heat all the time. Failures here will definitely throw a light. They can be tested in action but, it requires bridging wires and hooking the O2 up to a digital volt ohm meter and ensuring the voltage wanders around .45 volts engine running. Not too practical that. These parts are not cheap, that's for sure.

If this isn't cured by doing the suggested things at the top of this post and especially as you're stock, the best option is taking it into a shop or the dealer. You still have a powertrain warranty, try that on the dealer. You don't sound like the technical type but, perhaps I assume too much. Forgive me if I have.

yea they deff arent cheap. stopped by advanced auto. price on front was $405 and rear was $170

unplug the battery. go to autozone and pick up a can of MAF cleaner and give your MAF a good spray.

if he's running rich it's usually not that he has a leak/vacuum leak (pre-exhaust). most of the time that causes people to be lean.

or yea take a trip to the dealer to get it sorted out if you are under warranty

im past warrenty, 2nd owner and 43,000 miles. put my hks intake on other day and looked at maf and appeared to be clean.

If there are any stumbling symptons while driving I would suspect front O2 sensor. $185 from Russ Darrow Mazda.

no thats the funny part.... i notice no diff in driving/preformance. ms6 i drove with bad o2 had big loss of power, but no difference noticed in mine at all

I had those codes(p2187,p2097) + p2177. I found 2 major leaks one in my BPV installation(torn gasket) and TIP completely loose. I would start by checking the tip since they seems to get loose for many of us, even stock. After, perform a leak down test with an air compressor an adapter to plug on TIP or directly on the turbo and puts 20 psi (not 100 ;) ) on your system to find leaks.
