Hey all,

2007 Mazdaspeed3.

The engine mount failure happened with my car at ~12,000 miles. Total warranty replacement of engine attachments and transmission. As soon as the recall mounts were available, they were installed.

My car is at ~38,000 miles and 39 months and it just happened again.

Anyone else have this sort of bad luck? What can I expect from Mazda as a solution? Both times this happened it was at low speed (luckily), but it could have killed me. TWICE.

WTF?

What type of driver are you? Do you launch the car alot?

No. Lately, I've been driving it as a sedate commuter. I JUST brought it to the dealer for an oil change and had also to get a safety inspection to renew my registration.

*edited to add* - Since the first drop, I've been driving this car rather sedately, as the first drop scared the living hell out of me. ZERO hard launches, and for the first little while, I asked the dealers to check the mounts every time I brought the thing in for an oil change. I was just beginning to have confidence in the reliability of this car about six months ago - but ZERO hard launches.

Dropped twice?? How was it resolved for him/her?

I wrote a thread here when it happened the first time. Even posted my warranty receipt because people didn't believe it.

Are you heavily modded? If not have you already called the dealer that did the first replacement?

I move around the country a lot. The dealer I purchased from was in a different state than the one that did the warranty work.

The dealership that did the warranty work is a real quality shop.

Only 'mod' was the Mazdaspeed3 CAI done by the dealer with 'Mazdabux' provided because of the first failure.

I don't think I can be satisfied with a mere warranty replacements of parts for this car. What will I do when in a year and a half or two years, this happens AGAIN??

I thought it was common knowledge to replace that rear motor mount like...immediately.

I won't say it's ok that it happened, but ****, I would have replaced that s*** by now with aftermarket.

An aftermarket solution should not be required on a stock-except-for-MS-CAI car.

Not only that, but it just came out of warranty - if something were to happen at all and I have non-certified aftermarket parts - I'd have just screwed myself - so no, I wouldn't replace with aftermarket.

What you don't understand is, you're driving a $20k economy car with a turbo and a s*** ton of torque. It's not your average car, and due to the lack of Mazda's serious attention to detail, your engine moves A LOT. Stock or not, it's a torquey b****.

Install an aftermarket motor mount, or get rid of your car, as it's not a "sedate commuter". Because all the things Mazda did to "sedate" the car, is backfiring.

It's STILL a design flaw that effects basic SAFETY. This cannot be acceptable - and it was a $26,000 car, not a $20,000 car.

Well then you paid too ******* much LOL.

But, you're fighting an uphill battle my friend.

Why does:
-the motor mount fail?
-the stock shifter suck?
-the dash creak?
-the bushings creak when it's cold?
-the transmission sucks when it's cold?
-the seatbelts squeak?
-the turbo run out of breath at 5500?
-the turbos smoke after idling too long?

WHY DO THE ENGINES BLOW UP??? WHYYYYYYYYYYY??

I can live with the rest - I can't live with a car that could drop the engine at speed and cause a fatal crash.

It's unfortunate you don't, because it is "just a car" and a car that loves to be driven hard actually. I wouldn't know, as I drive so little during my commute that I never really drive it the way it was designed to be. But my friends do, and enjoy the s*** out of this car.

But one thing is for sure, you need a rear motor mount man, don't lose sleep over this. As long as they cover everything under warranty, you should invest in a rear motor mount. Otherwise, trade it in and move on.

now i dont have a MS3 but my first mod was the Rear MM on my 6 especailly after hearing the horror stories from the 3 crowd.. the stock mount sucks balls.. ill see if i can show u a pic of the 2 next to eachother, one stock, one aftermarket and maybe then ull understand why u need a mount no matter if under warrenty or not.

Nothing really happens when it drops at speed. I was going 70ish when mine dropped. Steering is okay, just no power and it sounds like a rock tumbler.

Correction: Nothing happened to YOU when it dropped at speed. An improperly mounted engine in a rapidly moving car can have devastating consequences - just because it doesn't happen EVERY time doesn't mean that it can't - and if it does, there are grave consequences for a manufacturer found guilty of producing a defective product.
