Droning engine noise @ 3050 RPM

Today while driving on the highway, I noticed something I haven't really before. When I was cruising at about 3,050 RPM, especially in 5th gear which places you at 64-65mph (about 104 K/hr), I noticed a droning noise from the engine. Doesn't sound alarming like something's broke... kind of a harmonic "wawawawa" droning noise at that one and only RPM point.

Just curious if anyone else notices this? (of course, if you have 4AT, you will probably hit this RPM at a different speed... if you experience it at all)

It's just a guess but it sounds like you're reaching a resonance frequency of some vibrating plastic part under the hood, hence the drone.

I had a car *cough* Honda *cough* that used to do that.

Seriously, I don't even care about it... actually sounds kind of cool for some reason. Just curious if it's a fluke of my particular car or if other 5's have this too.

Hmmm, the only "WaWa" I know is the one around here where I get my morning coffee...(sorry, late Saturday "PA State" gag (coffee))

No, seriously, no droning noise noticed here...

...I'm actually surprised that all car reviews highlight that the car noise is high at cruise speed (freak) as, to me and wife, the MZ5 is so quiet. Telling ya, I'm either going deaf or my other car is getting really old and noisy

I had the same thing happen to me a year ago. The dealer ended up applying the engine mount TSB for the 5 ( think it's a stiffer mount). My resonance occured at 65 mph in 5th and nw I don't hear it.

Yup! Before I could afford a car: If my clunker started making a new noise, I put in louder speakers or get a louder stereo.

I should say: Oh Sheetz! (encourage. So, Wawa has crossed borders (NJ, DE and even VA) but have not headed West of PA. No wonder I couldn't find one when we headed to historic Gettysburg once...

Anyway, to the point here , interesting to know there is a TSB related to this (boom03)... oh well, just keep us updated...
