Did anyone see Pimp My Ride when they bought that kid a brand new Scion? Did you see the car computer by Drivesoft? It's a computer with windows xp that is specifically for cars. It has navigation, internet, email, mp3 player and more. Anyone know more about it or where it can be purchased. I'd like to know how much that thing is.

Yea , I searched the internet could not find a thing. That s*** was insane. Im thinking its going to be like the price of a very nice computer, around 3-5 k$

we will build you a car computer with GPS, windows xp, DVD player, mp3 playback, ECU reading interface, touchscreen molded into the dash for far less than $5,000. Last estimate I gave someone for a decked out unit was $1,995. shoot me a PM or email with your desired specs.

um.. unless if you're building a server, you can't really spend over $3000 on a computer that's going in your car.

if you wanna be lazy.. just get a laptop..
i have a few, so i'm going to toss one in my comp and tie it to an LCD touchsreen...

http://www.xenarcdirect.com

car PC starting at $319... everything else is pretty much software - ie. free

I have the episode on TiVo if anyone wants a copy of it.. I'm not a big Scion fan...

do you have a series 2 tivo? How do you get your movies to the pc?

I do have a series 2.. and I'm not sure how to get it to my computer (i'm on a Mac so it would probably be difficult) but I can dump it to a VCR tape.

Hello From Drivesoft

I have noticed that you guys have said a few nice things about Drivesoft Car Computing Solution. We just wanted to say thanks.

Just so everyone knows, these cars are completed in 10 days or less which is a bit of a challenge considering the junk they choose. The Scion was actually done in 7 days which is pretty good I might add. I was there and we did not sleep a few nights. As for the screw up that you may have seen on TV with the dash etc. Those things were fixed before the kid got the Scion back.
Info about Drivesoft:

It was a 10.4 molded in the dash. The PC is a small box under the seat. It was touch screen, FM/TV-MP3-DVD-CD-GPS-XM-VCD-PiC Viewer- Car-Cam-Email-Internet-Media Organizer-Vehicle Status and more capable incar computer. We normally use 7" and 8" LCD touch screen but WCC wanted to put the usually touch on it as they do with all the high end cars they build 10"In The Dash Install.

PS: we are not trying to promote our product here on your forum but we thought since you guys were talking about it we would just give you some info.

Again thanks for you good remarks about Drivesoft and we even appreciate the bad marks about the software that is what keeps us awake and moving to improve. I will need to add one thing to that. We have approx 12000 users with drivesoft and we only get a few calls a week about support and mainly it is just becuase the user wants to know if he can perform certian task etc. Yes i agree it is a little window-ish and it is not the most with eye candy but just so you know we had the flashy stuff back in 1997 and it was not as sucsesfull at the new software we have as far as reliable and ease of use.

If you think i bad when your home pc crashs well think about when you are going on a long trip and your car pc crashs. This could make a person realy mad. That is the kind on this we need to think about when build products like this.

Thanks,

That is what I would like to know. Or do you have a web site we can check out

I'm interested in the price as well.

Kinda cool that this guy from Drivesoft just shows up from no where.

Guess that shows how well our Protege's are picking up steam with the world. Kinda cool!

Nothing against Drivesoft or anything, nor this particular episode of Pimp My Ride, since I haven't seen it. But does anyone else think that they don't do the best work? I mean, even the paint jobs...to me, they are terrible. If it were my show, I would at least do great work on TV, for the publicity. I dunno, might just be me or does anyone else think this too?

What you mean West Coast?

Yea. Audio installs look nice and so does the work that Ish does, but the paint and engine work. That one CRX they said they put a new engine in, they just changed the filters, oil, connected all vacuumm lines, and cleaned up the block.

in their defense they do lay it on pretty fast... BUT I persoanlly dont like whqat they do to the cars... can you say rice?!?! of course that only applies to cosmetic and performance parts, as most ICE isn't rice, distasteful sure, but not rice.
