Downpipe VS Testpipe

I just wanted to see what the rest of you have to say about EITHER OR, based on experience and so forth. Which one would be benefcial from the other. I know know it would be best to pair them up if I want to gain more hp, but I'm looking to get only ONE of them, so please help out a fellow member, with some kind feedback, lol :D

So do I get the downpipe or do I get the testpipe?

Thanks

downpipe would give more horsepower.
test pipe, from what I've heard will only give a few.

I'll be getting both eventually, then the mazdaspeed catback.

I'll probably get the test pipe, just because its easier to install and I'm up at school, so I wont have all the tools and time to install the time important downpipe.

And what if I was to get someone to install whichever one I want, I'm guessing you would say get the downpipe instead right?

If you were only going to get one, I would definitely get the downpipe.
If you were going to get two, it would be hard to say which one to get first.

If you ever need totake the car in for warranty work, you'll have to swap it back out.
But yeah, I think I would say get the downpipe.

I right now have nothing but the test pipe on the stock exhaust, and i immediately noticed a difference. The idle has not changed much at all, but the tone under acceleration and deceleration has become deeper, not ricer at all. As for power it pulls much harder, and for the price and time it takes to install, i recommend the test pipe.

in my opinion, get a full downpipe. cp-e has a great pipe from what i hear and its one piece which means less bs installing and less prone to leaks...thats the way i will go when i get a downpipe.

That is true.
But if the op only wants one because of the cost, then the downpipe would probably be better.. If it's not, then he could buy the test pipe and downpipe for about the same price as the cpe downpipe. But it's really up to him, we just have to see what he wants out of it.

well cp-e dp is about 550...the downpipes that require test pipes are around 250-300 and the test pipes are about 100-150 im so its almost the same price jsut 2 pieces. my preference is to go with 1 piece. cp-e...

-correct me if im wrong on prices

the protege garage test pipe is 200, and the corksport dp is 350, so its the same price for either a 2 piece or 1 piece. It just really depends on preference. There wont be a big difference in power between the two, I dont think.

We just have to wait and see what the original poster wants.

GREAT feedback from both of you !!! Thanks, clos561, I would go with the full 1 piece downpipe but financially I dont think I'm capable for that now, cause I'm trying to save up for my coilovers, so I just wanted a quick and affordable aftermarket part to add on for a little more hp.

I dont think I'll be doing a TBE anytime soon, so this is why I'm asking.
Thanks guys !!! :D

well I just the corksport down-pipe in the mail today, hopefully I can bring it in the shop next week, and it looks like I'll be getting the test-pipe as well seeing how corksport is going to be releasing theirs in november :D

I have the Protege Garage test pipe and it's great, but I want more of the gurgling sound so I just ordered the CPE Downpipe with the hi flow cat. I'll put it on tuesday, take a video and post it on here to let you guys hear the difference.

^ That's what the Test Pipe sounds like with the 3" GHL Exhaust.

not bad, hey im curious, is there any long term effects of just having a down-pipe and a test-pipe with the stock exhaust ???

Just loss of max power from going to a 3" back to a 2.5". No mechanical effects will be caused from it, just performance. :)

i have corksport DP installed only a little louder not much louder as for ferformance only minamal gains right now. I realy need to get a tune and a racepipe with electronic opener to realy feel the diffrence.

oh ok, thanks, cause i dont think i'll be doing a full TBE anytime soon, just the corksport dp and testpipe

hmmmmm only minimal gains from the dp, but i hope they are noticeable gains right, any other mods you have on the car that would contribute to performance?

oh and i would not have thought that a piece of stainless steel pipe would be so light weight, i picked up the package the downpipe was in and i was like, hmmmmmmmmmmm my downpipe cant be in there, lol

there is gains you can feel it in the but dyno i break loss in 2nd and third more then i used to. but im still running 2nd cat and 2.5 in exhaust.

Okay, installed the CPE downpipe w/ the high flow cat today. There is more pickup then the test pipe and it's louder. If you want to go for gains and don't mind in cabin noise, then go for the downpipe. If you want less gains to compensate for sound then go with the test pipe. I honestly couldn't even imagine the downpipe without the cat, too loud lol.

Oh and it took 4 hours to install with 2 people. They say it's one of the hardest downpipes to install on a turbo'd car because of lack of clearance.

3" CPE Downpipe w/ high flow cat - 3" GHL Exhaust no resonator.

I'll post a video tomorrow when I get a chance.
