I might be transfering to the dallas area and just wanted to know what arte some good places to live or rent. I dont want ghetto.

What are you looking to spend?
House Purchase?
House Rental?
Apartment Rental?
Where is your job located at?
Want a suburb or a more centrally located place?
Someplace quite or someplace with a lot of clubs/resteraunts nearby?

PM me anytime and I will do my best to ensure that your find a safe place to live and try to keep you in a price range you like. In 1996 I had to live in AZ. for 4 months opening up a new call center for my company.

Well, I ended up renting an apartment in the most dangerous part of Pheonix from what I understand. Lucky I packed a gun openly and had an extremly larg dog. Plus I drove an Orange & Black 1969 Ford pickup and I had Texas plates.

I use to laugh the gang members use to call me duke Boy, becuase of the color of the truck and it being a truck and I was from Texas. They were actually pretty friendly, they never bothered me. They would even throw their hands up in the air and run around saying "run it tha duke Boy" when I would pull into the parking lot , just to mess with me...

Back to my point, It could have had a very different outcome. Also, I was up there by myself and not with a family and I don't want others to end up it the same situation.

i was east aurora class of 95 so i know ghetto

well i was looking to rent for now until i figure out on whether or not that would be the career change i would want. i have lived all over too panama city,fl and puerto rico. so i guess i have been around too. what sux right now is that i was just offered this promotion a week after i had just moved in to my new place with my cousin. and i dont want to **** him over by leaving him hanging so i would continue to pay my half until he either finds a new roomy or the year is up...which is 750 smackers so i would be budgeted to maybe around 600 for everything.

living around bars and stuff would be cool i guess i work for Life
Fitness....If i were to transfer down I would become the territory manager for the state. My v.p. told me he would ideally like for me to live in the dallas / ft. worth area so i could keep better tabs on my reps, of which, the majority live in the same area.

Living near the bars and clubs for 600 is not really doable. I live off Greenville Ave and Mockingbird, very nice part of town with several resteraunts and clubs within walking distance. I live in a 2 bedroom duplex and pay just over $1000 a month. If you move a little further north you can get a nice 1 bedroom apartment for around $650-900. If you move up north to richardson/plano area you can get a killer apartment for the same price range. You could also rent a small house (2 bedroom) for $900-$1100 in the richardson area.

Most of the good rest/club scene in dallas is either;
A) Deep Ellum area - directly east of Downtown. There are several lofts for rent here, but none are cheap.

B) Lower Greenville ave (M Streets) - this is where I live. You can get a 1 bedroom duplex for around $800 a month here. i like it cause it's 2 minutes away from the 3 major highways (635, 75 and 30) and walking distance from several bars/clubs. The crowd here is mostly from SMU (college) which is located around Mockingbird and 75.

c) Addison area around Beltline and the North Dallas Tollway. I don't go up there much, it's usually either an older or yuppieish crowd at those places. But apartment prices are reasonable. I have 2 friends with aprtments near there, both 1 bedroom, 2 story places with a garage (3 stories if you count the garage). one pays $750 the other $850 a month.

Any of these areas would be much nicer than what i remember East aurora being 10 years ago.

If you're willing to drive a bit more look into the Arlington area or around Fort Worth. I'm not familiar with any of the scenes there.

Here's some areas to stay away from:
1) Anything within 1 block north or south of 635 between Hillcrest and Abrams
2) Oak Cliff area. Some spots are nice, but you usually have to drive through some pretty shady ones to get there. Prices are really cheap though.
3) Anything just south of I 30 and East of 45. - Once you get far enough away from the city it get nice, but then you have a commute from hell every morning.

If I were you I'd look at areas around SMU. You could probably find some college student looking for roomates. Then you could live there for 6 months while you scope out the city and find a better place for yourself.

how much do the lofts in the deep ellum area run?

I haven't looked in about a year or so, but when I did it was about $800 a month of a small studio (about 600-850 sq ft) about $1000-$1200 for a larger one (900-1200 sqft) with bedroom and living areas. It's a fun place to live if you like nightlife since about 30 bars and clubs will be within walkign distance. Problem with that area is there are no stores nearby. You'd have to drive about 2-3 minutes to go to the mexican grocery stores and about 5 to the nearest Tom Thumb or Kroger. And it's totally dead most weekdays and extremly crowed most weekend nights, especially during the summer.

You should do some web searches, I think there's a site like deepellumlofts.com or something. You should also look up Power Properties. Those guys are awsome. They take old houses and convert them to small apartment buildings. Most of them have refinished hardwood floors, granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. They all look really sharp. Some are in neighboorhoods that historically haven't been the best, but a lot of new and remodled homes are going up there so it's turning around quick. Most are gated with private parking spaces and a pool or community garden / patio area. My wife and I almost moved into one about 1 year ago, but we needed a 2 bedroom with our own backyard for the 2 dogs and the Power Porperties that big were a bit out of our price range..

is that Life Fitness or Lifetime Fitness?? i know that there is one in Plano and one that is still being built in Garland.
