I just came across this post. I have owned my CX-7 for a few months and am extremely happy with the value proposition it offers. I got the GT/no tech package at $400 over invoice.
That said, I do agree with lormad's misgivings about the missed details. The tech package at this day and age should have memory settings, bluetooth, and even ipod integration. These things have been around for a long time.
Obviously none of this was important to me. I didn't want to spend $4k for the tech package. I bought a Garmin I3 for $250 instead. It fits perfectly in the console and as a I travel a lot, it's super portable & ideal for rental cars. At home I tend to not need a Nav system, as I know my way around town...
I also think that the interior quality (materials used, not talking about fit here) of the car is decent but by no means awesome. But hey, at $27k it offers excellent value.
The front badge is a little big. I prefer understated design but again, that's fairly minor.
By the way, why does everyone seem to think that the car is not selling well? Mazda just exceeded there quarterly profit due to higher than anticipated CX-7 sales...
"Sales grew 12.5 percent in the first half to 1.52 trillion yen ($12.96 billion), up from 1.35 trillion yen, said Mazda, which is 33 percent owned by Ford Motor Co. Mazda based its earnings on Japanese accounting standards.
Strong sales of the Mazda CX-7 sports utility vehicle in the U.S., as well as of the Mazda5 minivan and Mazda MX-5 Miata sports car in both the American and European markets, helped to lift revenues, the company said."
