2007~2015: CX-9 Water Pump question

:
2008 CX-9 Sport 350,000 plus miles and still going
2017 CX-5 Sport
Water pump issues have been well discussed and documented on the 3.7 and its variants obviously, but my question for the forum...Has anyone had to replace a 2nd water pump?...and if so, how many miles?

As I stated in my 1st post, I am still humming along on the original Water Pump (2008...339,000 miles now) and was curious how often a secondary failure happens. I know from conversations with a mechanic I know who works for a local municipality, many of the Police Interceptors Explorers have had multiple water pumps during their service, but he said it's mainly from them being in constant use and having many days of continuous service(24 hrs in many cases) and constant idling as well.

Looking forward to any responses!

I was wondering if kbb repair estimator is more accurate than repair pal? because they have the water pump replacement estimated at 900 dollars while repair pal has it at 2900 dollars.

Yes, The first one lasted to 178K miles. The replacement puked out 68K miles later. The water pump shaft bearing was going out. First shop used "ATP" brand? Second shop used Cloyes brand timing chain/water pump kit. Maybe that's why the first one was ONLY $1650! The second one was $2200. At 248K miles, she is going up for sale.

Thanks for the response on a 2nd water pump replacement. I'm guessing most of the 1st gen's owners move on from their CX-9 before the 2nd water pump would/could be an issue.

Year ago I checked the Ford forums and it seems the Mazda built Cyclone V6 water pumps lasted about twice as long as the Ford's. Taurus and Flex and Explorer water pumps seemed to last 60K-80K miles while original Mazda water pumps got within looking distance of 175-200K miles. My window sticker says the engine was made/assembled in Japan so I don't know if Mazda cast their own engines under license of Ford or assembled USA made components or what. But, anecdotally, it seems the Mazda's water pumps outlasted the Fords.

I've wondered as well if being built in Japan made a difference, but most if not all of the parts...including the water pump...are FoMoCo. So,it really is hard to say. I switched out to the yellow coolant awhile back and have done plenty of drain and fills on it and the transmission.
Luck probably has more to do with things than anything else....

I serviced the tranny every 25-30Kish miles. Maxlife and LubeGard. The day I sold it 2 weeks ago, the buyer was amazed at how slick the tranny was. Love the way they designed it for only two quarts to drain out. No guessing!
