Hi,
the Mazda designer for the CX-9 front cupholder was an idiot, it's not removable for cleaning and worse there are two holes on the bottom for liquids to leak into the shifter module underneath. I forgot I had left a paper cup with water in the cupholder overnight and some liquid leaked and flowed right into the shifter underneath.
I found the perfect $5 coaster that fits perfectly into the CX-9 cupholder,
the two ring hoops are removable if you don't want them
