3.7 is even worse on gas

I don't agree, my CX-9 AWD is better on gas than my former 08 CX-7 AWD, about 1-2 mpg better for the same type of drive plus it takes regular, while the 2.3 DISI only takes Premium

That's great that your 3.7 is achieving better economy!

Cadillac announced a new motor yesterday, 2.0L Turbo DI gasoline engine making 270hp!!!
(that's 135hp/L - amazing - I'm wonder how reliable it will be....)
Mazda should put a turbo on its Skyactiv 2.0L (w/ DI) and see what comes out of it.
Put that on a CX-5 Speed model.

4 banger turbo's are great for smaller vehicles like the CX-5/7, but I want a CX-9 with a 6 cylinder Turbo Diesel like the Toureg. I would love the ability to tow 6000lbs with AWD and still get 30+ mpg (highway). Add in the CX-9's handling, comfort, 3rd row, and price point and you would have the perfect CUV.

The CX-9 definitely needs a good mpg improvement, we'll see what the next engine brings us. Other than that, we love ours, it's still a great car to drive after nearly 3 years.

I had recommended a CX-7 a couple years back to a buddy who didn't need a 3rd row, but wanted something sporty. His turbo blew, so I felt like an idiot (although I had warned him about that). Mazda has issued a couple new turbo revisions since then, so that problem should be mitigated.
