Cracked Windshield After 70 miles

Hello All,

Love the Car. I have a nice 8 inch slit on my window from what looks like bad seating on Mazda's part. If they don't cover this under warranty I will we pissed. 70 miles and a cracked windshield. The crack comes straight down from the top left. No rock chips or anything else. Otherwise the car is sweet.

Sounds like a stress crack. Take it to the dealership. They will go over the windshield with a fine-tooth comb to try to find a stone chip, but if they don't find one, then they should replace it under warranty. It happens sometimes to new cars.

Hey, the dealer is replacing the windshield under warranty. I was wondering if the windshield is just like any other Protege or is it different.

is it possible?

Speaking of windshield..
is it possible to keep the windshild from the wiper streeks over time? i really like brand new windshields when they don't have the lines from the wipers over time.

Use softer blades, like high-quality teflon ones. And change them often, as they harden over time, and that is when they begin to leave marks on the glass.
RainX might help too as posted above.

Use RainX. Only way to keep the windshield looking good. Make sure you wash it GOOD! before you use it. Use a warm water/lemon juice mixture to get it very clean. Window cleaners are crap. Make sure it's good and clean/dry, then apply at LEAST 2 coats of RainX, allowing about 15 minutes for it to dry between each coat. You'll be amazed. I rarely EVER use my windshield wipers, even in strong downpours. Water runs off when I am sitting still. If you do it right it's great.
I've never had wiper marks on a windshield.
Good Luck!
