Could I change tires to a different size?

Need to change tires. Find the local firestones have no such size (195 50 16).
But my neighbour has a new pair of Dunlop Sport SP5000 for $80. But the size is 195 55 16. The 5%*195=1cm difference of the outer radius. I understand that this will lead to some toque looseing. But is it okay to use these tires? A technician told me I have to use the exact size of tires for this car. I am not sure.

Get a 205/50/16 tire

Mine is also running 205/50/16 with Toyo Proxes4's. They work good but the speedo reads about 2 mph slow due to the larger diameter.

that's what we get for wanting different/better tires...inaccurate speedometer readings. on my previous set of tires (205/45/16) my speedometer read 70mph while my GPS showed my speed as approximately 67 mph. now with the new tires (205/50/16) i am at 70 speedometer and 71 gps.

I run 205/50s in the summer, and my speedometer is bang on (according to various GPS systems) however my odometer under reads by 3-4%.

lol you guys completely ignored his original question,
yes he COULD use these tires, who cares if the speedo is off by like 2MPH, it wont really cause u to get a speeding ticket
so if you wanted to, yes you could use those tires
