clutch and flywheel

hey guys, the time has come for me to put in a clutch, but im not sure what kind of flywheel i should get. im staying n/a for sure. im just not sure either to go with a lightened flywheel 7-13 lbs or stay stock and get it resurfaced. im going to get the oem exedy clutch from protegegarage.com. what do you guys think i should do?
 
i also hear a lighten flywheel will wear out the clutch faster... is that true? im guessing it is depending on the driving. im just going to daily drive it everyday with a little fun with windy roads from time to time.
 
I have heard amazing things about the ACT clutch and Fidanza Flywheel. I am not sure how a researfaced flywheel would compare to a fidanza flywheel, but if your going for cheaper researfacing would be the way to go. But if you have the money to spend I would go the Fidanza flywheel route.

I have the Fidanza and ACT in my MSP, and I am very happy with it. I also had the same combo in my Talon AWD years back and it was the best setup I have ever used. As far as it wearing out the clutch faster, not true. It is all dependent on how you drive it. Be careful, however, which pressure plate you go with if you are not going to boost it or something like that, because it may be too much grip & not enough power to have it go anywhere, if you follow......
 
i probably wont be breaking the 200 hp barrier. im staying n/a most likely thats why i wanted the oem exedy clutch. was thinkign about the spec clutch i saw forsale. anyone know if the oem exedy clutch is any good with a spec flywheel? i just heard that the flywheel wears the clutch out faster from a thread. not sure if that was true or not, but a couple of people said this.
 
If you are getting a flywheel resurfaced and lightened, it needs to be done by a professional machinst-- one that's reputable because it's an exacting procedure. My advice for your clutch is to go with something fairly mild if it's for a daily driver. The last thing you want is an aggressive clutch setup if you drive in or around traffic with any regularity. Also, there are some flywheels out there that may be too light (too impractical) for exclusive street use. Just be mindful of how much a more aggressive clutch setup and a lightened flywheel will change your driving experience-- that's all.
 
Forget resurfacing and get the Fidanza Flywheel. I replaced my stock flywheel and used a new stock clutch with the Fidanza and love it. Should have been standard on the P5 from the start.

As to wear, probably someone beating on the clutch.
 
do you notice that big of a difference with the Fidanza flywheel? I had my tranny replaced but I did not have time to order a new flywheel in time, so I got my old one reserfaced and i got a heavy duty clutch witch clamps a little harder then a stock but not too agressive. I like that set up.
 
is the lighten flywheel hard for daily driving? i will be putting down like 300-400 miles a week... etc with alot of stop n go. my clutch is going to come in sometime this week, so i have to make my decision soon.

I have the Fidanza and Exedy stage1, its a great combo...check also www.*************.com price compare.

I dont think the flywheel makes any difference in your clutch engaging. It just makes your rotating assembly lighter giving you more power but less torque. The clutch is what will make the difference in your drive as the clamping force and the engaging timing is changed.
 
some cars would stumble when coming to a stop...but you will definetely adjust your driving style to learn not to let it die. Same thing for some of the turbo guys driving with an open bov.
 
Yea the Exedy/Fidanza is a great combo.....

But i hit the limiter at WOT often if i dont pay close attention, it revs very quickly :)

haha, dam. u guys make the lighten flywheel sound sooooo good n tempting haha. still cant make up my mind. well i just received my oem exedy clutch. i looked to make sure its the right one. it said its for a 626... but im guessing its the same engine right? fsde etc. but i will do more research on it in a bit. let me see how long it would take to get a flywheel here =)
 
btw, anyone know if spec flywheel is good? i MIGHT get it, but im leaning towards the cheaper route... probably regret it later though blah.
