clunk at 1500 rpm

My 01 protege MP3 has a problem when I rev up to 1500 rpm, whenever idle or in 1/2/3/4/5 gear, a 'clunk' would come out to your ear if you sit on the driver's side. But after it passed 1500 rpm or falls below, there would be nothing. The noise sounds like metals scratching each other.

Any idea?

Does it come and go with clutch engagment? A motor mount type clunk?

i dont think the fuel injectors would have anything to do with a clunk.

CEL code P0421, meaning 'Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)'.

Are these two syndromes related...

there is no way that catalyst effiency could cause a noise like that....im gonna say check motor mount as well.

Do you have an Injen CAI? (Well, Injen or not)
