Chevy Tahoe issues

My friend has a 6 year old chevy Tahoe (the real big one) & was recently on a road trip. He heard a ticking noise while near tallahassee & pulled over to investigate it. He figured that it was just his drive shaft going. He towed to a mechanic in the area & after looking at it they located the cause of the problem....He threw a rod!!!!!! Now the guy that owns this car is very conservative when it comes to driving IE drives slow, tows nothing, never accelerates hard.
Im trying to figure out in my mind why he might have thrown a rod. He did buy it used a few years ago so all I could think is that the previous owner abused it by driving the hell out of it or towing things that were completely out of this things towing compacity (doesnt help that it has 20's) The thing is that he said the previous owner took really good car of it but maybe that was just cosmetically (dunno)

Any other thoughts why this would have happened?

I know that one but I cant control what my friends buy LOL

well you've got a point there.. (rofl)

before I got my 6 I had a 97 grand am SE.. when I sold it, the following problems were present:

alternator: dead
head gasket: hanging on by a string.. car broke down every 200 feet
transmission: on its last leg
timing belt was off by 2 teeth after having it adjusted just a month ago.
had just rewired the entire rear of the car due to an electrical short.
heating core exploded
ignition switch recall screwed up the voltage for the ignition and the car chewed up starters like it was its job.

you can see why I called that car rasputin.. despite some pretty serious issues, it still kinda worked.

LMAO..

Hahaha, that's pretty good.

As far as the Tahoe, tell your friend I think he's an asshole and I'm glad his truck broke. Anyone who drives an SUV and never drives it hard (eg offroading) and never tows anything should be b**** slapped.

And I bet there was something wrong with the motor, becuase as many problems as GM has with their cars, those old v-8 were rock solid.

yeah my uncle got a cavalier and the $@#$% computer died after 3 months, good thing it was under warrenty but still, WTF kind of quality control do they have there? is it ran by monkeys..?
