Check Engine Light : Code P0117 - replaced ECT Sensor - still on

Just bought my 2003.5 Titanium MazdaSpeed 3 days ago, super excited! Until my check engine light came on. I drove the car 4 hours on the highway to get back home with no problems.

CEL Code: P0117

Definition : Circuit Low Input
Probable Cause
- Open or Short Circuit Condition
- Poor Electrical Connection
- Faulty ECT Sensor

I noticed the coolant reservoir was spraying coolant/steam. I bought an ECT Sensor after getting the CEL Code. Replaced and took the car out for a test drive.
My Tempeture int he car kept rising and rising all the way to MAX HOT. The temp light never came on. The Check Engine came on again adn went back to AutoZone. Same check engine light code.

Any other suggestions?

think you misunderstppd the original post. he bought his Mazda Speed, 3 days ago. not bought his Mazda Speed 3, days ago.

i would check that the fans are working, the radiator is full when cold, and that the overflow is full when cold as well. if all that is good, I would replace the t-stat.

Thank you Nicholsspeed. I replaced the Thermostat and all my problems are solved. Nice quick fix.
