Cheap Coilovers?

I'm looking to buy coilovers, after being unsatisfied with my lowering springs. I found some on ebay between 250 and 400. Theyre made by skunk2 and groundcontrol, respectively. Has anybody heard of or experienced any problems with these types? Im also wondering if you can adjust the ride height externally. (without taking the wheel off, or the coilovers.) or have any other recommendations for something under 500?
Thanks.

The Ground Controls are good, but noisy. They can be adjusted by jacking up the front or rear of the car and w/o removing the wheels. I've had mine for over 75Kmiles and have been happy overall.

if you want quality coilovers, you will need to spend the money to do it right. the "coilover kits" you mentioned are not much better than lowering springs and will, like a cheap pair of knockoff springs, over time weaken your stock struts. my advice is to do it right, get a full set like the the BC coilovers and be satisfied with the performance and longevity of them. anything less, especially in the price bracket you are talking, will be a poor performing short term solution at best.

Just so you all know.... if your wondering. I ended up gettin the ground control coilover conversion kit for '99+ protege 4dr for a grand total of $414 and about 5 ours. They werent to difficult to install, straightfoward diretions. Just took it out for a quick spin and I would give them two thumbs up. For spring rate, I just told them something thats soft enough now to hit potholes and speed bumps to hard, but stiff enough to take tight corners. Turns out they hit speed bumps softer, and better cornering than my old racing beat springs. They more than exceeded my expectations. Props to low_psi for the recommendation. Just thought Id let you folks know incase you wanted to know.

I honestly have no clue. I just told them i dont want it to be very stiff, but still stiff enough to take tight turns; then they sent me something based off that- which im pretty happy with.
