Charge iPhone with USB Port But Not Lose Sound? 2016.5 CX-5

Hi, I have a 2016.5 CX-5. On long trips, I like to listen to music from a thumb drive connected to the USB of my car's on board entertainment system. I also use my iphone for audible directions, but need to charge it while driving or the battery will run down on long trips.

The thing is, no cigarette lighter chargers have ever worked in any vehicle on any of my iPhones, so I must plug the iPhone into the car USB port to charge. However, plugging the iPhone into the car USB port mutes the sound coming from the iPhone's speaker so I can no longer hear the audible directions on the phone.

The question is, how do I plug my iPhone into the car's USB port to charge it, but not disable the audible sound of the directions from my iPhone, and do it in a way I can still listen to music from my USB thumb drive through my car's stereo simultaneously?

Thanks!

Does your iPhone have the wireless charging? That's our setup ... A wireless charging holder.

It's odd to me (although I don't have apple things) that your phone won't charge from a 12v port but will from the USB port. I don't see why a phone would care where the power comes from.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have wireless charging. I've read that some USB cables have the audio lines internally connected and some not, but all the ones I've had do this. As soon as I plug the iPhone into the USB port, it mutes the iPhone and I can't hear either of my direction apps.

I have the same year CX and my cigarette lighter charger works just fine charging my iPhone 15. Yours should too.

What doesn't work for me is trying to charge the phone by plugging it into any of the USB ports in my car. They don't source enough current unless the Car Play/Android Auto upgrade has been done, it hasn't been done in my car.

Interesting... I have never had an issue charging any of my iPhones in my 2016.5 CX-5 in the USB port, but it mutes the sound in the phone when I do. So frustrating!
