ok,
so, i have twilight's cams installed...and i recently broke the PCV solenoid that's located between the MAF and TB...i snapped off one of the nipples for a vacuum line...well, patched that half-assed...and now i'm getting a multi misfire code. changed out the plugs...checked the wires...it'll run for a few days and throw the code again.

any ideas why this code would come up?

any help/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

this is on the mp3, btw.

Only other person (so far) to get multi-misfire was one of the FI guys - i think it ended up being coil pack related.

are you able to physically notice it missing, or is it a case that the ecu is being finicky because its not getting its own way?

I've gotten the same codes before however I replaced the wires, plugs, and packs all at the same time.. So I can't tell you what fixed it but I haven't recieved the code again. I replaced all as a due tune up.

well, he took it to the shop...everything's fine on the computer...the adjusted the idle a little because the MAF was pegged out pretty much...it was running lean @ idle...and everything looked good...and then on the drive back to work, the CEL came on again.

I don't know if its much help but when mine ws doing the same thing. It would always happen on the drive to work and always in the area area give or take a mile that the CEL would come on. The car would bog down and act liek it wanted ot die tell I shut her down. Then restarted right back up and was fine for the rest of the drive to work. Now this never happened on the drive home from work. I think this was due to the fact i got off work at 3am and its generally cooler at that time.

one thing is for certain, the standard ECU is going to be nearly at its maximum with these cams.

When Andrew first did his (which due to base circle restrictions are MARGINALLY less agressive - and definantly less agressive in the overlap department), he went through a whole bunch of things, increasing fuel pressure, trying to get the injectors opperating at higher duty and so forth just to get the AFR's back within an acceptable range. He was, at the time running CAI, full exhaust (engine back), extensive head work, cams, beefy leads, beefy plugs, light weight flywheel and so on...

Thats not to say these things wont work on a standard engine, however it will start getting to the point where the stock ecu just refuses to add more fuel (gone outside of its ability to learn/care about the AFRs)

to get the most out of them you should consider at least some sort of fuel computer, and adjustable cam gears as a minimum. not to say you wont get SOMETHING out of them without this stuff, but it will most certainly help you out and MAY Solve the problem (not sure how your ECU registers a missfire, but could you be lean enough when on power to start running into deto issues? something to definantly check out).

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, i STRONGLY suggest you look into getting a microtech. There are a few AVs who sell pretty well wire up and drive off kits, and theres a few little tuning and wiring tricks i've picked up along the way that may translate to my car's american kin. The stock fuel system is more than capable of providing enough fuel to get your AFRs back where they should be, its just a case of the standard ecu not having enough give in it to provide the fuel system the right instructions.

Thanks for the reply! I know on thing that i wanted to check on was shims also though. When the cams were installed the shims were not checked. Could this also cause the misfire, or what else could this cause? I was thinking of going back in to do shims, however didn't want to do it if it is too late or if there is no reason to. There are no bad noises(ie from the valve cover area to point to it needing shims.) But, i know it could still be a problem reading from the other thread. What are your thoughts? Could this cause damage to the cams, factory shims, head, or cause the misfire?

i know it needs new shims...other than that, not sure...i'll ask trip (jdmspec)...but i think the light has gone away!
