I have Searched and found nothing does our cars need an oil catch can?

I know my friends' SRT4 needed one does the MS6?

I thought I read some one on here that somebody put a catch can on and after a few weeks or a month it was still empty. I can't remember exactly, trying to search for it now.

a catch can is just a good piece to have all the time. all it will do is catch loose blow by oil instead of having it head into your intake stream. i've always ran one but am disappointed every time i see people selling them for $100++++++. they have them on eBay, pretty nifty looking and they have a nice looking 'mazdaspeed' cap on them too. or you could just do what i've always done, but a small clear fuel filter from autozone and just run it in line of the valve cover to intake line. allows the breathing and catches all the oil, you just gotta watch it and replace it when it starts getting clogged up. fuel filter $2, catch can from name brand $100+ easy, catch can from ebay that does the SAME exact concept, $30-40. you choose i guess.

I've had one on my speed for a while, never had to empty it once. I'm assuming it will become more of an issue when you start tuning these cars.

Oil catch can

I finally purchased an oil catch can w/ a breather off eBay for $65

I have been wanting to get a downpipe and race/test pipe but haven't because of all the problems I have read about the mazdaspeed3 owners have had with their cars smoking after doing the upgrade.

A lot of people are thinking it's the turbo seals going bad but after much research I finally came across a post that made since.
http://**************************/forum/mazdaspeed-3-troubleshoot-diagnostics/5953-smoke-idle.html

"from what i've read, reduced back pressure causes a reduction in the resistance in the PCV allowing oil to flow easier into intake manifold. since the PCV IS only open at idle and light cruising this is why you see smoke at this point because its getting burned up.
Ultimately an oil catch can will probably fix this as well as cleaning out the intake manifold."

I also read it is best to get an oil catch can w/ a breather so the bad fumes get released too and are not making their way back into the intake also.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Any thoughts?(iagree)

krank vents will do it. they are expensive, but when I find time I going to make homemade ones using $4 for 2 2JZ-GTTE pcv valves and some pcv hose.
