Carbon Build Up Issue - 2016 CX-5 Diesel

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could provide some feedback or share some experiences with a similar issue.

We recently experienced an issue with our car with relative low kms (130k).

Feedback from the supplier can be seen on the attached.

Maintenance has been up kept and it is a 40km to my workplace thus, driving habits are standard. I see Mazda has undertaken recalls on engine related issues with carbon deposits in the past.

Do people believe the issue is outside my control and Mazda should be liable for repairs?

Thank you

What oil has been used in every service? Did it meet the spec as per the owners manual??

Because the oil used will affect the carbon accumulation in these diesel engines.

Hi Moonlighter,
The car is at the dealership at the moment thus, I can not reference if it was to spec or not.

A lot of the services were completed at Mazda dealerships so i would hope the correct oil was placed.

Ok. But make sure in future if it’s serviced elsewhere that they use the correct C1 or C3 spec low ash oil.

When i had the 2.2 D CX5 I always supplied the correct oil myself even to the dealer.

It will be either C1 or C3 certified oil. Check the owners manual.
