I just don't understand it. Anytime i launch in 1st and run the gears, I alwayz get locked out of 3rd.

I guess it's time for a MM upgrade? or should i go SS?

Just want to get a consensus of what most people have in the way of a MM/Solution for this problem.

Thanks
C

shift earlier? i would take the car for a couple of dyno pulls and see where your best power band is for shifting. remember, just because it is wide open, doesn't mean that you are making the most possible power. my car wins more when i shift earlier and it has s*** for low end power.

Ok, I see some votes for the AWR mount which I have. I can tell you this though, the SS w/bushings was the biggest help for 3rd gear speed shifts. The MM only dialed that in a lil more. I went with the 88 dur race mount. I think it compares with the TRZ Dogbone as well, they feel the same to me. The SS has to have the bushings though, without you will hate 3rd even more. All 3 should run you around $350 and you can probably work out a deal if you try with S U or P G.

I was thinking of replacing a MM, but when I read that there's a vibration trade-off I stopped considering it, since I'm not planning on seriously racing this car.

So far I've managed to improve my shift success rate notably by being smoother off the gas on the 2-3 upshift. I may be loosing a bit of time, but I'm sure it's less time wasted than if I come of the gas fast and then can't engage the gear. BTW don't assume that by being smooth I'm refering to making a very slow movement, just taking that little extra time in coming off the gas in a fast but smooth motion rather than just taking my foot off completely in one motion.

But if I was serious on racing it, id go with the awr mm, and if I was still not completely happy, try the cobb ss also.

I just ordered the 88durometer rear motor mount, however took care of the problem with the TWM bushings (keeping the stock shifter). I've been able to hit 3rd with only 1 miss since the install.

I find that when I grind gears going into 3rd(quickly) at WOT, it's because of one or both of two things: Usually it's just that I am trying to shift too fast and I am letting the clutch back out right as I am popping it into gear(assuming it's pretty much already there) and the timing is just a fraction of a second off so it grinds. Also, sometimes I just miss the shift gate and end up revving my motor. My advice is to just take your time shifting, you can do it quickly but you must do it confidently and be very direct with where you push/pull the shifter. Many times I will just let the car shift itself by applying light force upwards to bring it out of 2nd and then let the shifter move itself to the middle and then slide right up into 3rd. This is by no means my first manual transmission car but I will say it took me a long time to get smooth with this tranny.

a tranny mount will help shifts feel more positive and direct without the soft mushy feeling but it will only do so much and if you grind alot now you"ll still do it regardless of what mount/shifter you get.....

try shifting into 3rd with open hand pushing shifter forward, dont hold shifter like you want to kill it, truboost told me that and this s*** works....of course mm and bushing are required in ms3
