I would like to keep my Black Mica MAZDASPEED dust free between washes, but I was wondering how these were on the paint. Thanks!

Buy one. You will love it. I've had one for about a year. It's great. When you first get one, it will leave streaks of wax from the duster. Not to worry. After time the excess wax will not streak. Put it on newspaper for a couple of hours before you use it. They will not scratch your paint unless something abrasive gets stuck in the duster and you drag it across yor paint. Hope this help's.

Thanks Patrick! Sounds like a plan. I must purchase one this week.

Greg,

it will not work for you. The instructions say that you have to be in the great state of California to use the duster!!!!

Uhh, I was born in Corona, CA, and I do love IN 'N OUT Burger. Does that count?

NOOOOO! Please don't do it! ...Unless you like swirl marks.

The California Duster does nothing except smear the dirt around. That's fine if you have a garage and a little laundry lint gets on you car. But dirt/dust will just get wiped in circles and make swirl marks. Seriously, the Cal. Duster will not pick up grime, it only wipes it off.

My advice is to get some Maguire's Quik Detailer and a clean rag.
Mist and wipe. It oughtta take 5 minutes, and it's WAY more gentle on the paint-job because the spray acts as a lubricant.

Swirl marks are usually caused by drying your car with cotton towels, and or too much pressure. I have no swirls on my car and have used one of these for almost 1 1/2 years. imo

remember california car duster is only meant for DRY dusting (eg pollen, dust, etc), if it rained and the dust got imprinted into watermarks, DO NOT try to dust it off with a lot of pressure! it's just a DUSTER!

for dusting off dry loose dusts it is awesome...

Interesting point regarding the Meguiar's Quik Detailer. When Joe and I arrived at the lake on Sunday morning to take the photos, he used the Quik Detailer right then and there with a soft cloth all over his Civic. I had done mine the evening before. But all that I really do with the Quik Detailer is the front end, because the bugs around here are a real 'b****'. I guess, I never really thought about doing the entire car like that. I typically, between washes, like to take a damp cloth to the front of our cars to remove the bugs, then apply the Quik Detailer.

The main reason, I have never applied the Quik Detailer all over the car, is because if the dust that has settled on the car, I figured it might scratch the surface if I went crazy with it all over.

the duster is a GREAT product....just use it as intended...for dry dusting....another investment that can keep your car dust free...is if your car is garage kept...and you just need to keep the nasty dust off of it in your garage between drive.....buy a few soft cotten sheets....have them sewn together and make a big cover that just lays on the car.....keeps the dust off...its cheep...and does the job....the important thing is never to put a cover on a dirty car....I did this with my show car for many years...works like a champ. as does the duster.

Thanks for all the replies! I bought the California Duster, and Dash Duster this morning.

Good Post...didn't know this product existed. Having a black car is pain in the arse so this is a great idea. I'll wash the body and it a few hours later it's covered in dust, pollen, and everything else airborne. It's to the extreme that I feel like I'm going nuts! I know I'm obsessive about keeping my car clean but I think I may follow your lead Greg and order one.

Wal-Mart is where I purchased everything from. I'm buying the "Water Blade" there, as well.

water blade is awesome as well, it really cuts down on drying time.

you will still need to hand wipe dry the crevices and edges, but it works very well on flat surfaces.
