Broken shifter part

So when I was at the track last week for the first time, I got a little too enthusiastic when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I felt like I physically broke something by shifting too hard. I think I may have broken a plate in my middle console shifter area. Now, when shifting quickly, there is a "clunck". The clutch is not slipping, and the transmission seems fine. I'm wondering if there is some sort of restrictor plate that keeps the shifter arm aligned? The shifter arm/knob mechanism seems to extend more upwards (towards engine compartment) and downwards (towards trunk) now and seems loose. I haven't had ample opportunity to take apart the console and assess the damage yet.

Has anyone found similiar problems? Should I take it to the shop and let the warranty take care of it or should I just find an aftermarket, more rigid, part to repair the problem?(uhm)

As I took the middle console off today, I saw no damage there. Looks that it may be bushings in the tranny or maybe a stretched or broken cable. I'm gonna have to take it to the dealer for repair work. Looks like I may be out of commision for a little while. (cricket)

Not that anyone cares about this thread, but I just returned from the dealer and found that I broke a plastic restrictor piece that attaches the shifter arm to the assembly. Not a big deal, and warranty will cover it. Said that it would be replaced with a stronger piece also. That makes me a happy man.

i had kinda the same problem . when i took my car into mazda to get the short throw shifter they said my linkage and shifter were bend . and asked me if i had ever taken it out my self . which of course i would never "why would i " . it grinded into 3rd gear if u tryed to shift fast at any rpm .

does mazda offer a short throw shifter that i'm missing?
