Brembo brake upgrade

Was just poking around, and found that Brembo makes a kit (4 piston calipers, rotors, lines) for the 3. I don't see why it wouldn't work just fine on our 5s.

Has anyone done this, or knows of anyone who has gone this route?

Brembo kit # 1A4.6004A

I can't find anyone who actually has this kit for sale, but maybe someone out there knows????

Meh, unless your seriously considering AutoX'ing your 5, brake upgrades are probably a very expensive waste. Otherwise if you find the brakes inadequate for the public twisties or traffic light-to-light strip, you're probably driving the family hauler more aggressive than you should anyways :p

Just paint your calipers gold and invest a sexy set of rims instead! :D

All that being said, this is coming from a guy who's never owned a 5 (yet) or experienced the full power application of an high performance brake system. If you end up successful getting these brakes on your car, I would be very interested to hear what you think and how you like them. Sorry I only offered opinions rather than answers. Good luck.

Jandree...I think you fail to understand the point behind car modifying. Some people are just car nuts, and no matter what the car, it's hard to leave well enough alone. Read: Stock out, aftermarket in.

The thing I'm noticing about this car, is that it's one of those that attracts buyers from very diverse markets. So there's bound to be disagreements on stuff like this. So if he's that type of car nut, then "waste" is something that can only be determined by him. You on the other hand seem to be a practical type guy, and not really into cars as anything other than functional transportation. That's just my observation.

Point taken. I just think $500 - $3,000 can be spent much more effectively on a car, that's all. But your right, it's not my car and while I have my 'free' money tied up in other obligations, I realize others do not.

Big Brake Kits

Hi MD5, not sure if this helps, but there is a nice Big Brake Kit at ProtegeGarage.com for the P5 @ http://mazda3online.web.aplus.net/product_info.php?cPath=21_31_116&products_id=451

I recomment getting the drilled/slotted EBC rotors and steal brake lines too for maximum stopping power if you dont already have them.

As for the Brembo ones for the 3 fitting, I cannot tell you - sorry.
Another tip is to break the calipers apart and send them out to be powder coated, much better finish than spray painted. Again though and said in this thread already its all about how much money you want to throw into the car.

I honestly enjoy putting the money into mine though - put well over 4k into it and its still N/A (naturally aspirated - no turbo), with another few K's to go before I get where I really want to be.

jandree22: I understand your perspective, not too long ago I was of a simular viewpoint, but I found it to be a great thrill to take something from routine/stock and make it a personallized creation. A great deal of people (tuners and otherwise) have asked why work on the P5 as it is not the fastest car, the thing is that REAL tuners know its about what you achieve, not what you start with! And it is that making the car give you a little, or a lot, more that is what we are putting our money in.

I think it should be commended that there are kids today choosing to spend their money on cars, computers and such rather than on drugs and such.

Anyway hope you find what you are looking for MD5!

The only reason I like big brakes is because I had them on my Mustang.

You can get a set of Brembo 4 piston hats, pads, and rotors for the front for $900.

See here:

This is a heck of a deal, and with these brakes and Cobra rears, if the front seat passenger didn't have on a seatbelt, I could put them into the windshield.

I like having good brakes, they can save your arse in situations.

The only bad thing about good brakes, is that you always take it in the a$$! (Because the guy behind you can't stop as good as you can.)

Plus they look cool as s*** when you have big wheels, with the big ass slotted and/or drilled rotors filling up most of the rim area, and a big ass red caliper. People see that and they're like, "Damn. That dude aint ******' around."
