Bike rack or no?

Im half and half with this issue. I totally dig being able to tote the bike, but Iduno about all the wind noise and what have you. Not something I would want to take off every week after riding.

I'm in the same situation. Looking to sell my roof rack now; possibly will pursue some sort of a hidden hitch plus a hitch mount rack.....not sure.....

Personally, I'd love to just yank the rack off each week, but it's a PITA (yeah, yeah, 25 minutes...). Also, it's a PITA to keep the roof clean/dry, etc.....ugh...

IMO, the noise isn't so bad. A fairing would help though.

Also, do you have any close up shots of the rack setup? I have an upright and would love to use a fork mount, but that might not be an option as I may go disc brake this season.

I had one on my CRV, and it reduced noise significantly.

I have dual disc setup didnt notice any problems...the front disc mounts to the wheel, which you end up taking off with a fork mount

At first i was scared because the fork mount didnt accept my huge fork, but it opened up just fine.

This is what I bought. Its a Yakima system, really easy to put on and take off, and it uses Vipers so it is compatible with disc brakes.

Very low profile.

i took mine off and kept it off, dont own a bike becuz i have a car.your using the rack for your bike and it seems to be working out for you, no need to get another in my opinion. and if you wanna "impress" anyone with the whole healthy-bike riding, idea portrayed by having it set up on the roof, try strapping the P5 to the bike and then riding it. now that show balls.

Yep you got it...20mm thru-axle. I think you need a special fork mount for that.

I got the Mazdamounts and then bought the Cobra upright mounts. The bikes face the rear so the tray doesn't hit the spoiler. It does make a lot of noise on the highway, but that's only with the sunroof open. Otherwise I hardly notice it. I'm sure the sunroof deflector helps some, but not like a fairing would. Oh well...

Without the bikes it looks like I have missile launchers on my car...I guess that's a bonus...now only if they were REAL!!! I should mock up a pair of rockets and mount them on the trays just for grins!!!

so did you buy your Yakima from Mazda? and you don't have the factory racks right? I bought a Yakima from Mazda and the dam thing doesn't fit. any ideas any help ,

Nope, I bought it at my bike store. I picked up the Q towers for the car, then the cross bars, faring, and bike mounts. It fits perfect. When I have it on, I can rock the rack and the car moves. Very solid.

In Canada the racks are pretty slick but they sit too high for me. The rack is an option here, and they just screw into predone holes. The American rack is much lower but way more eloborate.

yes, easy to install if you have the right concept. I tried doing it without any instructions the first time and got stuck. Then, glanced at them and now I can assemble it in 5-10mins.
