- 2003 Mazda Protege5
Hi everyone,
Just bought my first Mazda... 2003 Protege5... I wondered if one can buy the programmer (bi-directional) that Mazda uses for testing, diagnostics etc. and if so, what model and where to get it? My understanding is that the newer Mazdas are compatible with the new Ford VCMII (IDS) unit, but my Ford mechanic friend plugged his machine into the car's brain and it wasn't compatible beyond reading basic information.
Second question, I stopped in at the local Mazda dealer to check the VIN history as well as brain updates... and there is a brain update (I can dig up the number if anyone is interested) but the mechanic was telling me he didn't recommend updating the program unless there was something specifically wrong with my car. I wouldn't know! I just bought it! Anyway, that's the first time I've ever heard that - I always kept my 2005 Ford up to date, and there were a few updates that fixed known problems that didn't generate codes, but were there nonetheless. Thoughts? I mean aside from the first few miles of the re-learning period after programming. Was there a bad update? Some other reason?
Thanks!
Oh, one more thing - a good source headlight lenses? Mine are crazed/yellowed to the point of no return...
