Best Way to Mount Subs in Hatch Area

I've got 4 10" subs that I am thinking about building a custom enclosure for in the hatch area of my MS3 and was wondering if anyone had an idea on what would sound better, A. Having the subs mounted facing out towards the glass or B. Mounting them facing in towards the back seat? I don't have too much knowledge as far as audio equipment goes so if this is a stupid question just try not to be TOO brutal. Haha. Thanks guys.

couldnt really tell ya, it depends upon the ears of the user, see if you could borrow a sub box and point them towards tha direction you want them to fire and see which way sounds better, personally in a hatch, they'll still hit harder than they do in a coupe

its not a matter of them "hitting harder" in a hatch than a coupe.. in fact there are too many variables for one to have any particular advantages over the other in any field of sound. there are many examples of coupes being able to achieve higher pressure levels and visa versa.. as far as sound quality the same can be said. there is better loading generally in a hatch when you rear fire off the hatch lid than the ability to load in a coupe due to the shape of the rear/rear window. as far as cabin gain goes it all depends on the amount of room in the vehicle.. in coupes and hatches generally the smaller the better, but thats only when trying to achieve the most output out of the subtage... thats why crx's are so famous in the spl lanes... but they are also unique in producing the greatest output with upfiring the subs and rear firing the ports.. generally speaking you want the ports and subs to fire off the same face of the enclosure.

Hello Mazda lovers just came back from JL audio R&D and are using my Silver 2007 MS3 for the demo for a new stealth sub box. I have friends who work there and wanted to use the car. I will keep you updated. So far it will be a 10"W3 300 watts.

FANTASTIC! Keep us updated!

Thanks for the input from everyone.

That box will be $550+ so be warned in advance

As far as that goes, me and a friend of mine will be building the box, fiberglassing, and painting it ourselves so I'm sure I can save a good bit of money. Plus a good friend of mine has an audio company and can get me anything else I want for little of nothing. I'd hate to have to buy something to make it work. Haha.

I had two 12's in m p5 and it sounded best firing to the rear, although facing up was a close secound. as far as building a enclosure goes remember the airspace is very important, I've seen subs actually destroy themselves in the wrong airspace/enclosure set-up. good luck.

My interest has suddenly disappeared.

all the decent JL stealth boxes and MTX thunderforms are a chunk of change. the 10w3v2 is like $250-$300 alone.. then add a custom molded enclosure in there and $$.

to the hatcha and if u have ports have them face up..i had 2 15's in my 04 hatch and it was crazy loud...i always made my speakers face the trunk door or hatch door.

So whats the word on that JL stealth box? I would really like for that to come out. Never had one before but the ones I have seen fit nice. Question though, when you buy that is that with the sub? Or is it just the enclosure?

Just spoke with two different reps from JL. They flat out said not happening. Why play with my emotions like that. (headshake

Define a Rep?
Like an area audio Rep firm?
If so they would have no clue what JL is up to before they annouce it.
If its like any other company, the engineers propably look at a car and try to figure out what is possible then submit a budget for the project. Then the finiacne guys have to figure out if it will be profitable.
So before they would even consider talking about it, there is about 6-8 weeks of bickering about it that needs to be done. Until then there is no point in asking anyone about it.
