Since Austin is about 80 miles from Corky Bell's place, I had Corky install one in my 2000 ES (1.8L) with 28k miles and an auto tranny. Baseline dyno before taking the car to Corky showed 96whp @6100rpm and 95lbft torque @4300rpm with air/fuel ranging from 14.1 to 11.7. The car was completely stock.
First turbo dyno (with only preliminary tuning and boost set at 5lbs) shows 120whp @6400rpm and 135lbft torque @3200rpm with air/fuel ranging from 16.6 to 12.4. WHP and torque increases are 25% and 42%. Other than the turbo, the car remains completely stock.
Although in its present tune it won't burn up any dragstrips, the car with its increased torque (and in a sweeter range for my driving) is a dream to drive in the hill country around Austin.
I'm attaching a pic showing Corky and the installation. For those of you who haven't met Corky (or read his book), here's a chance to see the master (and one of the nicest guys with whom I've ever done business).
The kit and installation totaled about $4k and took a little over a week, in part because the 2000 has less clearance in front of the radiator than newer models. Jeff Crittell at Corky's did most of the installation. Some of the bumper had to removed and the normal intercooler wouldn't fit requiring some redesign of the intercooler tubes. The power steering cooler had to be moved and additionally there was a little rearranging required because of the auto tranny).
