Balance Shaft Removal Kit

well, I got my kit today. it was delivered in a ziploc bag with no instructions. Who wants the dimensions? I will pm you

Do you know how to make technical drawings? You could just draw it up and then post it on here. (thumb)

I figure I will take pictures of the parts and post measurements on the photos in here. I will try to get to that after work today

Ok, to anyone interested, here is the BSD kit. This is all that came with it. For instructions go to http://www.marcymotorsport.com/html/tech/mm-bsrk-23d.htm

The first picture is the bolt. It is an 18mm bolt with an overall length of 1 inch. I am not sure how to measure the actual size of the part with the thread (or what it is even called) but it is about 9mm. The second picture is the lock washer for the bolt. I didnt post measurements because I am sure any washer that fits the bolt will work. The third picture is the steel plate. The measurements on this dont seem like they were even cut very precise and most the edges are rounded. The diameter of the hole is 1/2 inch. The fourth picture is the plug that goes in that hole. And the last picture is just an installation tool. It is a steel rod about 8" long and 3/8" wide. Measurements arent critical with this as long as it is long enough to install the plug and skinny enough to fit inside.
Sorry I am not technical at all, but if you have questions, go ahead and ask

step 5 on the install says "Follow the OE instructions for removing the oil pan, Choose: Ford Focus, Mazda 3, Mazda 6" anyone know where I can find that?

find crossbow or AzMz3 for the actual instructions. This public comp hates my PDF file

hope they jump in as i don't know where my good copy went.

this is what i did, not from a manual

drain oil
13 bolts going straight up
3 bolts along tranny side
4/5 small bolts on passenger side (easier after removing inner liner)
2 bolts holding on the dip stick tube
a bit of prying to get the pan of without making any grooves(hardest part for me)

i've done this 3 times now and not issues really, making sure the gasket seals well without using too much seems to be the hardest part. hope that helps some at least?

thanks for the info. Do you know how much to tighten the oil pan bolts when done?

Here ya go. Straight from the horse's mouth.

What will removing the balance shaft do for our mazda 3's.

In theory, add a couple hp and make it rev up quicker. It will also make the engine vibrate more. With the gushy motor mounts we have, you probably won't even notice.

If it's your car, you WILL feel it. I only say this because i'm assuming those that are doing this spend a lot of time in/with there car and notice every change that happens to it. For any one else that sits in your car, it's not really noticable except at startups it's a bit more noticalbe. I really notice it when i'm driving alone, and come to a stop, in gear (ATX here), and can see the passenger seat shaking quite a bit....with weight in it, it's cool, but without it moves a good bit.

I took my girlfriend somewhere a few days after with my friends and we sat in the car to warm it up a sec. My friend and i were talking about the mod and she asked if i had done it yet....didn't even notice a thing had changed...like most people.

Hoping to have mounts on by end of the month, so will have to update how bad it does/doesn't get once that happens.

also can get more Qts of oil in the engine to replace the space the balance shaft took up ;)

Yes i did, hoping to see them in the coming week. You guys should be in contact with Nik at Draxas as i believe the company will be using him as their retailer. Still not done, test fitting and whatnot will happen through end of June i would presume.

As far as the BS kit, is Marcy still selling them? i know he took down the Mazda part of his site, but we can still order this kit right?

I highly doubt it. i think we pissed him off enough that he isnt making them. He was on backorder, so I think he just made enough to fill his current orders and called it quits. you can ask him though.

Just make it yourself. The specs are further back in this post. It's just a hunk of sheet metal, a plug and a bolt.
