I was driving along when my sub stopped working...I am not sure where the problem is..(amp has power and all connects on it where good) ...before I take the amp and sub into a shop to test I want to know that my HU rca out's havent crapped out...this is a stock msp deck after all. I have a voltmeter, and tried to use it to check for a signal there...I didnt get any signal but I really don't know what I am doing...should I be getting a reading from the rcas when the music is on? if so, what setting should I have the volt meter set to?

If you have a portable CD player or MP3 player you could remove your HU from the picture.

Buy (if you don't have one) an RCA (red and white audio cable) to Headphone jack adapter. Then unhook your amp's RCA's adn replace them with the RCA's coming from your portable source... If you get music, your HU is bad or you have bad cables (prob the HU) If you don't get music something might be wrong with the amp or something else.

This can be used to start removing signal processing units out of the picture as well to help simplify the problem.

In addition to what Breeegz suggested,

Some head units allow you to turn off the pre-outs. Make sure you didn't accidentally do this by running through the settings on the head unit and reading the manual for more information.

check all connections, and check ur fuses. Also check ur fuse that runs from the battery its on ur power wire.

thanks for the suggestions...all connections are good..power to amp...I was just wondering if I can test the rca outs with a voltmeter and if so how? Thanks

AC voltage... from center conductor to shielding.
