apartments in new jersey?

hey i was just wondering if anyone in new jersey could help me out...im trying to pick colleges to go to after my girlfriend and i are finished at the community college we are going to now...and we are thinking about montclair university...
we were looking for prices on apartments online...and they are all very expensive like $7-800 or more...i was wondering if there are any cheaper, or if that is the going rate...
please help a fellow protege owner out let me know... :)

I go to Seton Hall (South Orange, next to Newark), but it's expensive. Dunno about Montclair.

I can tell you that rent is really NUTS up in North Jersey. Maybe you should go to Rider or Monmouth University, which is more south and less expensive to rent an apartment.

Montclair is a fairly upscale town and the rents tend to be high, as you've seen. Surrounding towns such as Verona, Caldwell, West Caldwell, Pine Brook and Bloomfield might have somewhat cheaper rents and are still within reasonable driving distance of Montclair State.

This is an expensive part of New Jersey. I don't live too far away from Montclair so if i can be of further help, let me know.

$700 - $800!! You should feel Lucky! :D

This is an expensive area. Might be a drive but i know of places in Kearny for like $500-$600. Not sure of availability, but i could find out if need be.

YOur lucky to find..even studios up their for that price..expect spending a grand..on a sutdio or maybe 1200 1 bedroom...Mont clair is very upscale and expensive..maybe check out linden!

I lived in Montclair and still have family living there. $700-$800 is cheap. You'd want to see the place first for that price. Like goldstar and acibbg said, it's pricy. Maybe you can get lucky and get a killer deal in Montclair or a surrounding area such as Verona, West Orange, Cedar Grove or Bloomfield.

thanks for the help guys...geesh...i didn't realize it would be so expensive...the only problem with going to other schools is that we need to find one that has both of our majors...urban planning and physician assistant...
kinda hard to find togather :)

but rutgers has both at a couple of their campuses...would some of the more southern sites be cheaper? also, hoboken? that isn't real far from montclair is it? how much is rent there? fun? i like fun :)

thanks for the help guys...i won't be moving til next summer, so i don't need any help looking for places...yet :) but general help is really appreciated.

thanks a ton guys...any meets up that way?

thanks
steve

In general, southern jersey is cheaper than Essex county (montclair).

Hoboken is right outide NYC making the city very accessible. NYC is the best! Hoboken is like 20 minutes without traffic to Montclair State but a disaster with.

how much are places in hoboken? id really like to move there...ive visited a bunch of times...nyc, long island and nj...and i loved all 3...montclair seems like a good college for both me and my gf...and im a huge fan of the jets...which are like 15 minutes away :) let me know...
