Anyone come from a G35?

Tried doing a seach but didn't come up with too much. Has anyone migrated from the G35/350Z platform? I know its usually the other way around (fwd -> rwd)...but I'm sure there are a few...

I'm not new to Mazda as I've had two 1991 FC RX7's for 8 years in the past. Both a TurboII and GXL. Should have never sold the turbo!...but thats another story.

The Speed3 has intrigued me due to the fact its very practical and quick. Just test drove one today and loved it. Lots of power down low, handled great, and loads of room. I did feel the torque steer on one occasion...but then again it was a wet day today. Overall I felt it was noticeably faster then my 06 coupe, and actually had a much better clutch feel.

I felt it would be an awesome DD as I drive about 70 miles a day. The G has been great and absolutely no issues...but its very limited with space and to be honest is not too quick.

Has anyone made the switch? Regrets? In the grand scheme of things I'd opt for an Sti, but since the Speed3 is 10K plus cheaper it has my vote.

Would love to hear any input...Thanks!

a G being too slow for you? i'm assuming you know a thing or two about cars seeing as you've owned a couple FCs. on paper you're going from a 5.5 second 0-60 car (g35) to a .... ~5.5 second 0-60 car (ms3). but if more space is what you're looking for, then sure, go for the speed. if not, if i had a g35 coupe i would just mob it. looks a lot more professional and classier IMHO.

i came off a g35 coupe but it was automatic. i loved the whole luxury scheme of it but it's not as fun to drive, but then it was automatic. its tru people see the g coupe more as a "classy" car, but i love my ms3 despite of all the problems i went through with it. its fast, fun, and looks great.

customer service and warranty service is excellent from infinity, but not so great from mazda.

i came from a G.

the G is a pig. the G35 isnt that "luxury" its a sports lux car well on the sportcar side. the G37. now thats a legit sports lux car with plenty lux.

i miss the RWD of the G and ext styling. but interior design, speed, the MS3 is more fun. there wasnt much to do with the G unless you do FI

ext styling hands down the G wins. so the only two things i miss about the G is ext. styling and RWD.

other than that. i love my MS3. now i cant wait to get my Z06 in the next few years

but i love nissan. nissan nissan nissan. G was/is special since its the first official skyline released in the states so. never thought id ever own a mazda. never cared for mazdas until i drove the speed.

i love my MS3.

Thanks for the feedback guys...good to know there were a few coming from the G...

Styling is indeed nice along with the reliability. The power of the G on paper always seemed to outweigh the real world speed. After driving the Speed3 today its no doubt faster. A G37 on the other hand will put up a better fight...

It would just be really nice to have usable space to transport items! I can barely fit a large suitcase in my trunk, haha...

I know that the Gs are nice, so don't bash me on that but.....Everyone around where I live owns one of those damn things. Sure they are nice but come on. Both neighbors, one is a 4 door, one is a 2 door. There is not a day that goes by that I don't walk out of my door and see at least another one(not including the neighbors Gs) on the street. Some of you might say, oh they are great cars and popular but I live on a freakin Island. There are not a lot of people who live here and not a whole lot of people work here. Ah it gets on my nerves how much I see them.

I might also be biased in my post because all the rich bitches that I go to school with, their dads have bought them new Gs. This girl in my class has had 3 of them since starting school (2 years now). Come on, seriously, so sorry G because of that, I will never own you. Even if most people would trade in the speed for the G, I would never.

Erm, the G35 doesn't share anything with a Skyline other than a sticker on the back on the JDM version :P It's a 350z platform car, not a Skyline platform.

G35

sold mne when it started to eat oil. 1/2 quart every two weeks, engine never felt smooth, kinda loud. My speed3 is great to drive, much more fun. Yes the g35 was a looker, but now I'm passing them in a "wagon"!

I test drove a couple G35 sedans before I bought my speed6. IMO I preferred the overall build quality and the interior of the Mazda over the Infinity. I also see G35's everywhere! Since I bought my speed6, I've only see 2 other ones, and only 3 speed3's. Oh yeah, and the Mazdaspeed cars are awesome!

I test drove a couple G35's, one stock, one supercharged. The stock one wasn't very fast, and to my disappointment, the supercharged one wasn't much faster! I know a guy with full bolt-ons in a G35 (intake, TBS, headers-no cats, CBE, custom tune) and he couldn't keep up with my stock MS3 at all.

I beat G35's and 350Z's at the track all the time :)

That being said, I think the sound they make is wonderful, plus they have a nice gearbox, but the interior is sort of a a let down.

yeah the weight of the G kills its performance. the g37 on the other hand is a very different animal. top end of that thing shoukd be even more insane. besides i have seen a couple guys run 13.5 at i believe anywhere between 105 and 107. g37 will move in the hands of someone who knows the car.

id get a g37 in a heartbeat. i was one of the few who thought it looked better as well as made the g35 look outdated

i think you are allittle misinformed on what a "skyline" is what a skyline "gt-r" is and a "nissan gt-r" is. a skyline is a sedan. the coupes are based on the sedans platform. the skyline gt-r was a rodded out skyline like our ms3s are rodded out mz3s. hence what gtr means. gran touring racer.

you are confusing skyline and gt-r. g35's and g37's are skyline 350 and 370gts in japan. they are based on the g35 and g37 sedan platforms. thats why nissan didnt name the nissan gt-r a "skyline" b/c its not. its not based on a sedan platform and doeesnt share anything with the g35 and g37 aka skyline in japan. peoplemistakingly call the nissan gt-r a "skyline" when they are actually meaning to say "gt-r"

im not going to break it down. go do reseach on the skyline., skyline gt-r and nissan gt-r

I've always been a huge fan of the 350z/G35. Came real close to leasing a G35 6MT sedan, but things fell apart and I was glad they did, because for the same price, I ended up buying my 05 GTO. However, there was always something I loved about the G/Z. The exhaust note, the way the interior felt, just felt very different to me.

The new 370z is pure temptation to me. If I would have known my gf was actually going to consider getting a new car like the CX-7, I wouldn't have gotten the speed. But I was trying to think "Practicality, space" since all she had at the time was a 02 Cavalier 2.0l 2dr. We couldn't both have tiny cars. Then she goes with me to the dealership and falls in love with the CX-7. Oh well..best of both worlds I guess. We both have turbo'd 4cyls lol.

That's actually the first time i've ever heard that!

I don't know how the G would look in a wagon. I think it'd look extremely similar to the BMW Wagon.

Cadillac's CTS Wagon looks hideous imo. Looks like the Dodge Magnum. But we won't talk about how GM's "Day Late, Dollar Short" repetitive failed tactics...

agreed.

i went and took a look at the 370 this weekend. that car is bad ass. there are so many details in the design. the interior is now on par as being "luxury" and the 370z just looks classy now. not to mention i didnt see it as coming from the 350 but more so from the 240, 260 and 280z.

the 370 is now a legit cayman competitor in terms of class and outperforms the cayman.

im thinking about one

also took a look at the wrx and sti. and sittting in the car, i felt like i went so far down in class compared to the interior of the ms3. design of the wrx...eekkk. while they can look good, stock-thats one ugly car

i could never move from a ms3 to a wrx or sti

I'd take a g35 coupe in a heartbeat. I hate hatches or wagons. And a G35 wagon would look brutal.

I would never not own a wagon again as my primary car. I need the cargo space. Personally, I think a G wagon would look great if executed correctly. I'm thinking similar to a BMW 3 or 5-series wagon. Those are seckz.
