Amazing highway mileage for first trip

my wife and I drove our automatic touring to Austin from Houston this weekend, I did 123.5 miles on 3.1 gal of fuel for almost 40mpg!!!!! I was shocked, trip computer was way off, showing like 33mpg. Car only has 1700 miles so not even broken in. Our average speed was 63mph but we did several stints at 75 mph.
Going to test again on the way home to verify this but man thats impressive.

That much difference between trip computer and calculation is obviously a incomplete fillup.

That MPG with only averaging 63 mph is believable!

Running from Nashville to Charleston and crossing the Blue Ridge mountains, we averaged 36 mpg for the entire trip (averaging 65 mph). 40 mpg at a just slightly slower speed, more importantly far flatter terrain, and I can absolutely believe what you did. Good luck on your return trip!!

my return trip mileage was no where near as impressive, averaging 70mph and driving into the wind I only managed 28 mpg (trip computer said 30). My 39mpg may very well have been an incomplete fill up, I know the handle clicked but I of course can't see into the tank. Looks like wind can really impact these little engines.

Our city mileage has averaged 26 which is spot on with the EPA figures.

I don;t know how everyone is getting such good mileage...Best I've gotten was yesterday on a 200 mile trip down into Arkansas which we got ALMOST 30mpg. Driving 340 miles to Wichita we got only 28mpg. Around town we only get around 22mpg (most because of my wife always being in such a hurry, but when I drive it slowly and deliberately, we still only get 23 or so). I'm not happy that it isn't getting closer tot he rated highway MPG, but still won't complain too much since it's easily getting twice what it's predecessor was getting (2010 F150)

It depends, they might not have the AWD, or it may be stick? I have the GT and with myself and 3 other passengers +a 2 yer old I was able to reach numbers like 33.8 MPG about a month ago. Of course it helped getting on the highway right after filling up and resetting MPG.

Over 8000 miles I have found the MPG readout to be off by 4%.
