I know this is kind of a random question, but I'd like to thank anyone who has any thoughts right now.

I bought a CDA-9831 a few weeks ago. It was been working alright for the past week, but got bad dramatically yesterday. It can play maybe........3 songs from an mp3 cd and then immediatly gets confused. It may or may not give me the ERROR message before it locks up. I cannot do anything. The cd will not come out for about....3 or 4 tries. I have to reset the cd player.

It just upsets me. Any ideas on what could be the problem? Could the lens be scratched? Do I need to get one of those cleaners? It plays regular cds fine so far from what I can tell.

Thanks again.

if it plays regular cd's fine, I'd say its either the speed you're burning the CD's or the quality of the blanks you're using. The $5/100 CD's might be ok for CDROM drives on computers, but most car CD players only like higher quality like Verbatim or Memorex.

If that doesn't work, try burning them at a slower speed, like 8x

I agree with Dreadlox. If you try everything he said and it still doesn't work...bring your cd to the store and try it on their floor model. If it works fine...return your unit for a new one.

i am using memorex cds right now. i can try different burning speeds.

as for returning the unit. i actually bought it from a user on these boards. so i can't really return it.

i'll try the different burning speeds.

so i tried a new cd brand and burning speeds. it didn't help. i also tired burning the cds on my newer laptop burner. those cds seem to be read quicker by the deck and those haven't screwed up yet but i've only used them twice. the cd that came with the deck from the seller screwed up yesterday so i think the laptop cds will.

basically my question is. since the unit is from 2004. and i bought it from a guy and not a dealer. is there anything i can do other then pay for repair? or anymore ideas to try and fix it.

to explain my problem again. basically. the only thing that happens is the mp3 cds screw up. it plays normal burned cds perfectly. mp3 cds sometimes don't read, take maybe 20 seconds to read, or play for 10 minutes and then get confused. by confused i mean they stop playing the track. and lock up. you can switch to tuner but thats it. when you hit eject it lowers the screen but doesn't even try to release the cd.

i'd really love to fix this because this deck otherwise is amazing.

sorry for being such a new person to this stuff. i just figured the people in this community are very knowledgeable and maybe someone has an idea other then burning speeds.
