Alberta folk - What up?

On a car that is under warranty I suggest going to the dealer for this. Sure they might not be as cheap as some tuner shop, but might make things easier for you down the road.

If you installed the springs somewhere else and later had trouble with the suspension a dealer is going to tell you to get bent. BUT if the dealer was the one who did the install, it is going to be very difficult for them to not support you. Unless they tell you up front that installing the springs will effect you warranty.

JayC - Even if you blow your struts numerous times, will Mazda replace them? If so, best get it in writing. They might just chalk it up to wear and tear(which isn't covered by warranty) and you still have to pay for replacement.

Bottom line is, if you can afford to modify your car, you should be able to afford to fix it as well.

Also, check into PE Tuning for your AutoExe needs. They also can order Eibach, Tokico, new clutches and more.

Blown,

I'm talking about something that would normally be covered under warranty. If you rolled into the dealer with springs someone else installed you are going to have a difficult time. If they were the ones that had installed them, your likelyhood of a hassle would be less.

I'm just giving someone a point of view they may not have considered. I'm not advertising for someone or anything. Just a little helpful advice.

Neuromancer - Technically, the only warranty that's voided for getting springs installed is on the springs themselves. Struts are a wear and tear item. Also, if you had springs installed and your radio went. Your radio would still be replaced under warranty.

I'm just trying to clarify how warranty works for the noobs out there(not intended at you JayC). It seems that the dealerships are a lot more laxed on aftermarket parts.

I agree with some of what you are saying but the fact is, any mods to the factory parts void the warranty.

I had Eibach springs professionally installed on my 1.6EL and I blew 3 shocks. Front left went in like 6000k Victoria acura replaced it under warranty after some fighting. Then I blew the front right, Acura in calgary wouldn't do it under warranty because I had the springs in there. Then I blew the front left again, after that I said screw it and went and replaced them all with Tokico HP's. Never had a problem "ever" with those shocks. Buy the time I did all that and all the money it cost me in labour and parts I could of had coil overs!

All I can say is, if you are going to do it, do it right the first time and don't mess around with trying to fight with dealers. Even though they will install springs at the dealer they will not garuntee replacement of shocks.

Talk to your dealer. I know of at least two people who have had the exhaust/intake CAMS installed on their car. The dealer did the work and will warranty it. This was put to the test. One of the guys cooked his engine just recently (was not his fault, but a problem with the engine). They covered the engine under warranty, now if it would have been directly to do with the CAMS themselves, obviously Mazda will tell the dealer to piss off. BUT this dealership will warranty it themselves, since they did the work (I know this because I was told so by a very good source). So it depends on your dealer. That is why I suggested this option in the first place.

JayC - The question is, would Jim allow and warranty the installation of high compression pistons? Or, is that too much? I wonder what all he is willing and not willing to install/warranty.

You had best talk to him on the details. I don't want to speak for him or the dealer that he works for. He isn't a member of this forum. But it you want to talk to him, call him at work or send him an email. You can PM me for his email.
