Release date? Hmm..they have been on ebay, CAI and short rams'
the word from AEM's own staff to me was that the intakes have not been released and that anything being sold on ebay would be in violation of thier vendor agreements - not to mention possibly not the legitimate final part.

as for injen, the best they have given me is "very soon"

Guys I would wait. My car is up at K@N engineering right now as a project car for thier cold air intake system. I get a free one for letting them use my car. I should get my car this thursday or friday and will let you know if its worth it. Dont buy one from aem yet.

Easy for you to say. You're getting a free one. The rest of us have to buy one and AEM is cheaper than K&N.

I'm with goldwing on this....AEM is a good company and we aren't getting a free one. That's cool for you and I'm happy for you but it doesn't change a thing for us.

official line from AEM is that the intakes will ship end of April/beginning of May. Those who have paid so far have had thier intakes ordered.

Any dyno charts on the AEMs?

I'm coming from the Honda Civic world and I did a bunch of research on this before I got my AEM V1 intake for my old 97 Civic EX. First off, I can't believe how much they are charging for a V1 intake for the Mazda3. $250+ is a little ridiculous for a metal tube and a filter. They?ve already done the R&D and now it's just a matter of cutting to size and shape. Anyways?.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the stock Mazda3 intake was drawing air from the front grille. This is already effectively "cold air" and not susceptible to the engine bay heat soak. So there goes that benefit. (I'm a poser. I still haven?t bought a Mazda3 yet due to financial reasons.)

The only other advantage of the V1 is that it provides some pressure wave resonance (sound) to help push the air into the intake. However, if you examine dyno charts of the cold air intakes on other cars, you'd see that resonance (and this jives with physics analysis) is only helpful for a short region, usually around the 5k rpm range (but depending upon your engine size.

This leads me to my other point. It?s not enough to just say "a 7 hp gain". You gotta look at the whole dyno to see where the gains and losses occur. If all the gains are at the top end only, it might be useless if that?s not your application. Just a warning to you guys. Make sure you know what you're getting into.

Don't get me wrong, I love the AEM V1 on my Civic, especially since the older Civic really does benefit from both cold air, resonance, and pipe diameter aspects. I'm just wondering if the modern Mazda3 is really going to get much out of it. Maybe it's better just to get a K&N stock filter replacement.

BTW, the bypass valve have been shown not to work unless you *completely submerge the filter in water*. It does nothing to a partially soaked filter that?s splattering water up the intake.

I'm in also. I will buy it but I'm a little nervous about the warranty issue. I mean will this void anyones warranty for putting it in. I know 7hp is not much but who knows what the dealer will grab on to in order not to do warranty work. I would LOVE to get a supercharger, CAI, headers, blah blah, everything to make my Mazda 3 make M3's beg for mercy, but honestly it's a brand new car, mine dosen't even have 1000 miles on it yet. I don't want to get stuck paying $260 a month for a car with no warranty. Please give me your thoughts.
sorry, i doubt you'll be beatin any M3's anytime soon... its my dream car btw... i had to defend her

Well my best friend has a 2003 M3 and it's not as fast as you would think for 330 HP. He raced another friend with a 240 hp civic and it kicked his ass. And that was on a track so don't even say oh well one wasn't trying and the other was. It's a nice, overpriced car. I wouldn't get it.

Speaking of violations....you should up the price on your site before AEM finds out....If you are direct with AEM you should know how Kirk feels about the price agreement.
the min. retail price for the CAI is $210.98 and SRI is $118.99.
This is just an FYI for you:).

Our 'price' is a PRE-SALE price and *NOT* the final retail price.

thank you Ben for the FYI.

like Dexter said, this is not the final retail price, but a presale price. We do communicate directly with AEM on these matters but do not purchase directly through them, but through one of theirs and our distributors.

Please dont take it the wrong way. I could not care less what you sell the intake for...personally I think min. selling price is pretty gay on AEMs part, but we all have to do it.
