Hello guys,
I'm about to drive an mp3 next week when Im done with the insurance work. I got it used with 170kms on it. considering that there will be no problems with the vehicle, what should I do with it ? I have an extra $1000 to spend. I'm considering getting new brake rotors, I saw a big brake kit on eBay ($800) and was wondering if big brake kits are worth it on the MP3.

thanks

you'll soon find that the protege was not designed for power. More or less they love the twisties. Go suspension first. I see you have 1,000, thats plenty to get you some good coilovers. BC's and Ksports are both in that price range. If you want power, go turbo strait out of the gate.

Welcome....
Like posted above if you want a serious power increase go turbo, you want to have fun in the corners defiantly suspension, but if you want to stay NA and want to see the most power increase go header, exhaust and intake. The header was the most power increase for the NA engine.

You can get a good set of springs for less than 300 and then a header from 200 to as low as 60, leaving you 500 or more to spend on exhaust or whatever you want.

Also I highly recommend the clunk fix bracket once they get them rolling again. It will eliminate the rear clunk all together. Good luck.

I also forgot to ask, the mp3 I got didn't come with the racing hart wheels. I am going to get new wheel and tires package. Do you think 17x7.5 with 45mm offset wheels will fit perfect? What size of tires do you recommend for 17x7.5?

I'm gonna go ahead and vote for no on that wheel and tire combo. I had 17x7 +45 with 215/45 and the back wheels would rub on the fender lip if there is anyone sitting in the back, or even if I went over a larger dip in the road.

I'd try to find something with higher offset or go with a 205 width tire if you don't want your paint to start flaking and promote rusting in the back fender area. It happened on my P5, you don't want your wheels to rub.. as sweet as they might look, it's not worth it if they rub. Paint will chip, rust will come in, and good luck stopping it.

He's @ stock ride height. I am +40 offset with 215/45/17 and over 2" drop. With camber and fender roll, I don't rub. If I had +45 offset, I wouldn't need the fender roll. And he has over 2" of clearance above, that I don't.

I guess to be safe, he can go with 205/45 and that should take car of any issues. @ +45 he should have nice semi-flush fitment... Just dial down the camber. -2.0 and you should have PLENTY of room with +45. OEM camber setting is like -1.4 in rear, IIRC. -1.8 in front, I think.

I had +42 17x7 wheels with 215/45-17 tires on the MSP struts and springs with no issues.
