A list of known CX-5 Stereo / Navigation problems

I don't mean to stir the pot but I can't believe so many people are dismissing a great vehicle because they can't control their music device through the car. Maybe am too old school, but give me a great automobile with a crappy "stereo" over a crappy automobile with a good stereo. Just my .02

I have the same feeling but if you buy a new vehicle, stuff should work. I just wish they made the "Sport Model" with the 2.5l engine. Would have save me a couple grand. Ha

Also add Radio display dims in daytime

Also add Radio display dims in daytime. And oppositely, turns hi luminosity at night!

Today you can have both a good car and entertainment system, and it should work straight out of the box.

My last car a Xtrail worked in every department, phone connected as expected and the 6 cd player and radio worked as expected.
The CD player would also play MP3 files.

The Nav was great and far better IMO than the TT rubbish.
And it had a 7" screen, and with out any annual subscription for Live services. (UK issue)

I actually see no point in a USB that restarts every time I start the car, the CD resumes play, so personally I would have been happier with another 6cd player.

Took my '14 in for service yesterday (AU). They said that there was no software updates and were not even aware of USB issues with radio....#$@%^&*!! In the meantime keep b****'n.

I had an issue with the Pandora, USB, and Aux controls were grey and unable to opened. The bluetooth didn't sync as well. The dealer had to reset it by plugging something in a resetting the software. Taking the battery terminals off didn't fix this.

If not the Pandora, the unit would be totally useless.

It is truly a shame that we do have to deal with such crappy head unit in otherwise very good car. Moreover, it is just terrible that Mazda does not do anything in this regard.

Would class action lawsuit help?

I own a 2013 CX-9 which has most or all of these problems listed and we're now looking at replacing our second vehicle. I totally would look into the CX-5 and it would probably even be the front-runner but due to these issues I won't even be considering it.

^ True story, it actually happened again today. Now I have to take time out to go to the dealer to get it reset.

Why? If the first "reset" wasn't the long-term fix, why have them do the same thing again? Unless, you want to return to the dealer in a few more days when the same fix no longer works.

In my opinion, almost everything electronic in the CX-5 a disaster, and detracts from the ownership/operating experience:

* I have never been able to listen to a voicemail from any of my iPhones over the BT Audio in the CX-5
* I can't plug my iPhone into the USB port because of crazy things that happen (e.g. the iPod app will start playing music while I'm on a call, which doesn't seem possible, which I've filed a Radar for with Apple) -- I have a 12V to USB next to the built-in USB port and use that for charging (so the CX-5s firmware has as much distance as possible from my iPhone)
* the Smart key system...well I have a spreadsheet
* Numerous visits and 7 days in service to get the factory remote start working
* The TomTom NB1 is a real treat: the voice control, the update process

Ricart Mazda (claims) they reset my radio 10/28 to fix issues with Bluetooth Audio, it no affect.

As a point of reference, my last vehicle was a 2010 Mazda3 (new model year when it came out), it had a few small issues and Mazda fixed them within a few months. I spend at least 75 days a year in rental cars, and have not had these kind of issues with base model Hyundais, Toyotas, GMs, Fords, Nissans. None of these systems are perfect, but none of them have so many problems (that one would miss in a test drive) that linger after so long.

To the original poster: IMO the BBB is a waste of your time unless you are a resident of CA (Mazda NA is based in Irvine). Make a list, keep taking it in for service, keep telling people everyone you know about the problems you are having. Some of us have been waiting since this vehicle launched for fixes to issues, they haven't arrived. Investigate your state's Lemon Law process.
