99-00 Protege Custom Front Grill

light sandpaper, primer, paint (mat or gloss) and depending on if you chose gloss maybe even clear coat.

I just scuffed and painted mine before I put the delete grill in.

i simply washed mines with bath soap, and spray painted it. I dont think you need to prime it. I suggest clear coating it with some good stuff cause its gonna take rocks.

Oh and i used flat black, which is wat i wanted until I asked the guy how much would the clear coat make it shine, and the guy said "Its gonna make it shine shine." Glad it did though.

oh and red99pro i like how your came out, i'm gonna be doing the same thing but I think i'm going to sand and prime first

oh getting it out is the hard part. What i did was get behind just the silver peice with a flathead screwdriver and turn it, NOT PRY IT. The clips should give...might break a few, we all did.

QFT - I definitely broke one or two.

I took the same approach as red99pro for undoing the ones behind the plastic mesh. Just get a flat head and once you get the tip under the edge of the clip, give it a turn and it should unclip.

Best Advice - don't be afraid to break something

haha good advice

but yah sometime this summer I will get up from my house and actually do this mod

unless i find one of those custom front grills.

I also saw a few proteges on the forums that just completely take the whole front grill out. It was on a red protege, I will try to find the pics.

Mathew's ? The red 99 that did the MSP conversion from quebec ? Yah he doesn't have a grill he just has mesh in it and he moved his horn and painted the rebar so you don't see it anymore.

If I remember he had a p5 delete grill but it was a real pain to try and fit so he just left it.

I decided to do this project today... I didn't plan on doing anything with the grill part but wanted to take it out anyways to see what it would look like... here are some pics.... First two pics are No grill or chrome piece... looks kinda dumb unless horn was moved and inside support was painted..... third pic is of just the grill... 4th pic is finished product and I decided to paint the emblems

btw I used several layers ofpPrimer and clear coat

Yeah I think it was him.

Do you remember if his grill was a custom job?

Oops, my bad it's spelled Mathieu.

In terms of his grill, do you mean the one he didn't install ? or the mesh work he did ?

Just to make sure we're talking about the same car:

I found it in the 99-00 pic thread. For some reason I can't find it when I just look in the forums and go to the 2nd,3rd page..I could only find it with search. (uhm)
