hi, i took my metra kit and decided to mess around with it a little, i ended up taking my old 7.2" lcd screen from a diff car and molding it into the dash, then i installed my new deck and dvd player in the glovebox. The hardest thing was molding the lcd in, ive never done this before and it took me about 3 bottles of plastic filler putty and 15 tries to get it this good, im still not 100% done but it has come a LONG way. I have remotes for the deck and dvd player so them being in the glove box doesnt give me too much trouble at all. I also included a couple more of my car since ive not posted any pics yet.

My... what big toes you have (omg)

On a serious note, that's one wicked setup. I like I like (thumb)

Very clean, and well done for first time!

That's great! You did a kick-ass job on changing that kit to fit the screen. I noticed on this and another post that the Metra kit doesn't seem to fit too flush (Not your fault of course.. again, great job buddy!). Did you notice that too, or am I just seeing things?

ya it really didnt fit all that great at first, but now its really light so it doesnt even hold the hvac controls up like the stock cd player, they hang down like 1.5mm in the front if nothing is propin it up...thats why those tabs are showing.

doesnt look to bad, just would get real old having to have your glove box door open all the time.

Hey, it looks GOOD! What "plastic filler" did you use? I need something to install my dynaudio tweeters in the factory tweeter location, but I want to angle them towards me a little bit, so I need a plastic filler of some kind to do this. Yours looks good. Also, did you have to paint it, and what did you use. Thanks

yes, theres ALOT of sanding and a little painting. I used Krylon paint, semi-flat, as soon as i get my new touchscreen off ebay and i redo it again, im going to use ultra-flat, i think it might match a little better. The name of the plastic filler putty is "White Putty" which i got from a local hobby store, $3.50 a tube which would redo the whole thing probably 3 or 4 times. just remember to use different grits when your sanding. i didnt think it was a big deal, but when you have everything as smooth as you think it could be, try sanding it with some ultra-fine sandpaper one last time, and you'd be amazed at how much better it looks.

anyway here is what i did, using the plastic filler putty, I filled in all cracks and covered the whole front of the plastic with a thin layer, adding if i needed.
VERY IMPORTANT: let it dry over night, cause this stuff is a pain if you sand one layer then get some wet putty. sand it smooth to the shape you want, you can add putty if you need.
Prime, sand with very fine sandpaper (220 grit works) then first layer of color, dont spray thick coats, on your first coat you should be able to see some primer through the color. sand inbetween coats, then your done when you got it painted how you want.. sorry if this was kinda long.

here is a setup that I have done. The next step was to do the LCD in the same spot were you have placed yours. I think what you did is great looking. I was trying to pic in my head what it would look like, but because of you experiment I now know. Thanks for the pic post. I am going to paint mine black mica to match the top HU section. Keep up the good work.
