Is there really any big difference between a 200$ injen intake or a cheap 50$ one off ebay?

not really... +/- 1 hp MAX.... get the cheapaer one.... and get a decent filter if you want... but either way they do the SAME job.

do you know if they sell the injen filters seprate, i just checked ebay and only found full kits

rism... do a search :) but blackwidow sumed it up- chris

hmmmmm you mean since I have an a-spec intake in there they wont let me pass inspection?

The ingen cai is stainless steel. Not to mention it's colder air that goes into your engine. The thing is if you are going to mod your car don't go half ass go all out. You will eventually end up spending more money trying to be cheap. Do what money allows but don't be stupid. If you don't have the money just stack your paper then do mods. The key element is to TAKE YOUR TIME and don't be in a rush.

well as I see it the ONLY reason the injen would have colder air going in is because they place the end witht he filter through that hole in the front drivers side of the engine bay, if u leave the very first stock pieve of the intake on and run the ebay or other SRI from there it will go right through the hole like the injen.

So at that point there isnt a huge difference except for a little quality and maybe support. I persoannly really like the spool CAI they are selling but really need it to be in that 150 range, before shipping, for me to justify it...especially when my 40 custom intake sounds really nice and mean.

I bought my intake at a shop. Spool is a good company but when I bought my intake spool did not have one. Even if they did I still would not have bought it. Companies like Ingen,AEM,and HKS are names that are known for intakes and as well as other products. I buy my products for the quality and the performance, I don't buy them because they just sound good. I am in this for the best and nothing but the best goes in or on my car.

agreed with the quality post and the halfassing things post, i only buy quality name brand products for my car cause i know they have been tested and approved to work and such.

No, Injen are all polished aluminum like all the others.... stainles steel would be way too heavy...

Injen are Designed and Engineered to give more hp. Whereas the EBAY intakes are just some mandrel bent tubing cut to fit. If your just going for the look of having a modded car, get the ebay, but trust me, your torque will suffer, as well as your HP. your gonna be sucking in hot ass air, being an SRI. :D

Ok, here are the low-downs on intakes (please read, good info):

First, you have two types, CAI (cold air induction) and SRI (short ram intake). For the most part, you have two name brands that make intakes: Injen, and AEM. Injen makes the CAI and AEM makes the SRI. Also, you can purchase a no-name, Bomz, or other off brand intake from eBay with simliar results to the SRI.

Rumors: Dispite what a lot of people say, the two types of intakes do not yeild a significant power difference. I have owned both types and noticed NO, NONE, NADA, ZIP, ZILCH increase between the SRI and the CAI. The basic difference is 1) Looks (the Injen you can get in different powdercoated colors), and 2) Personal Preference. The eBay intake will yield almost IDENTICAL results to the AEM SRI power wise. In my opinion, the eBay ones look like junk, but they serve their purpose...I had an eBay intake before my Injen...it's a good intake for a tight budget.

Another rumor is that you will have to worry about the CAI taking in water and destroying your engine...while this is theorectically possible, it will not happen unless you submerge your intake in water (ie - drive through a 2ft deep puddle)...the CAI is hidden in your wheel well behind the plastic shield which is screwed in...if you are especially nervous, you can always get the AEM bypass valve, although I personally think it's a waste of money.

Prices: You are going to spend significantly more money for the Inejn or AEM intake over the eBay intake. And you are going to spend more money for the Injen over the AEM. A lot of owners feel it's worth the money to be able to get your intake in Black, Red, Blue, Silver, etc, and therefore spend their money on the Injen. Frankly, if you don't care about name brands, or care what people think when you open your hood (if you even open your hood), I would not waste my money on the Injen or AEM...but that's just my opinion, and many hours have been wasted arguing this point. Many owners have found the best prices for the Injen at www.adventon.com...

amen Razor5. good post. this board has been up for 2 years. we have been having this argument for those two years. and we never once have had a dyno run of the intakes. if i had the cash i would do a dyno run off between spool, ebay, injen and aem. but i dont have the money. hell if anybody is around KC and wants to come donate their intake for a day we can test them all on my car and i would pay for the dyno runs.

ebay intake just makes more sense for me. even though i'd prefer a name brand product, i'm not trying to throw a lot of money into my car, so i'll get the inexpensive one provided that people can attest to it (and many have). i couldn't care less about what it looks like.
