well i've really been easy on my car since gas is $2.08/2.18/2.28 so I filled up today, and had 400.1miles on the trip! (yippy) and filled up with 13 gals which means i got 400 miles on 13gals= 30.76 MPG IN CITY! (thumb)

i love it.

This is AFTER i reset the ECU and have taken it EASY since then (since the ECU learns driving 'habits') I HAD been getting 275-315 on 13gals before I reset and and before I started driving non agressive.

Wow..not bad at all. I've gotten 400 miles out of a tank in my car, but that was on the highway @ 75mph.

well what i do NOW is slow accel then shift into 5th @ 23-27 MPH. or i shift 1st-3rd-5th.

saves mad gas. as soon as light turns yellow, i coast, no matter how far it is to light.

You'll get better MPG by shifting into 5th later...around 35mph or so. Having the RPMs too low is just as bad as having them too high. Most cars get the best MPG between 2 and 3K rpms.

my P5 has been getting 425 a tank.... mixed highway and city... guess there is an advantage for us NA P5 people... :D

My teachers at ATI when I was going to school there. Also lugging you engine can destroy your clutch disc. You shouldn't go into 5th gear unless you're between 40 and 50 mph.

hmmmmm, maybe I will learn to drive like an old person.... Need to save money.... Oh with the header on I been getting better gas milage on the highway. Last trip was 320. New oil 5w30 syn and header got 415. Hmmmmmm.

Barely any power is produced in 5th gear at low rpms....so I don't see how it can ruin the clutch.

Yes, it puts a lot of strain on the engine, and yes, it wastes fuel, but destroying the clutch disc??

Yeah that's what causes it to destroy clutches. The fact that you're not producing enough power while trying to move the vehicle. That strain is directed to one component in the drivetrain more than anywhere else, your clutch. Think of it this way: Your clutch is going to take the most abuse b/c it is what connects the engine and transmission. The clutch has to deal with 2 seperate and unequal forces, then try to make them equal so that the vehicle will move. This is the same reason you can sheer teeth on a gear. For those who have never seen inside a transmission up close, 5th gear is the smallest and usually the thinnest gear on the output shaft. This makes it more fragile than the rest and the easiest to shear b/c of the same forces. The input shaft is spinning the countershaft, which is in constant mesh with the output shaft, and one speed and the differential is spinning at another b/c of the axles. When you put it in 5th at low rpms the engine lugs send vibrations all the way through the drivetrain. The vibrations cause the gears to actually touch, which they shouldn't do (gear oil keeps the gears from actually touching, has it acts like a pillow). This touching by the gear puts small scratches in the faces of the teeth, which takes away the strength of the gear little by little, thus resulting in them sheering off.

Actually, my gas mileage improved after I boosted. Probably because of a free flowing exhaust.
