4 outputs on HU, 6 speakers?

The radio in my 01 dx was conked out when I bought it, so I threw in an old POS cdplayer I had laying around. Wiring the HU up to a metra harness was super easy and at the time I figured it was as simple as that. I just purchased an inexpensive Boss all digital (no cdplayer) HU that puts out 4x50w. I plan on purchasing some inexpensive speakers for the car next and I started thinking about the implications of wiring. The HU outputs are the basic +/- FR FL RR RL setup. Are the 4 speakers in the door-panels wired in parallel (ie. sharing the FR output to both passenger side door speakers) with the 6x9 shelf speakers running on the RR and RL outputs? Or do the 6x9 and rear door panel speakers share the RR and RL? Obviously the split wiring is already in place because as far as I can tell all 6 speakers are getting power and an audio signal from the 4 outs. When I get the car back from the shop I will try and isolate which speakers are running on which signals by using the fade/bal functions on the HU. The only reason I am concerned about this shenanigans is because I want to buy speakers that are the proper spec for a 4x50w signal split up between 6 speakers. I'm not against installing a small amp to power the rear 6x9's for a little extra bass and loudness, which would leave the HU outputs powering the 4 door speakers, but I wont bother if I have to run a new wiring setup to do it. If anyone has tackled this before please chime in, I'm a stereo n00b so be gentle;) Thanks

first, if you have an 01 DX, you only have four speakers - two in the front doors, and two in the rear deck.

You sure? Each of the 4 door panels has a grill which appears to house a speaker, plus the two 6x9 shelf speakers in the back window. Are you saying that despite the appearance of a speaker housing, they might just be empty spots in the door? I know it's common practice on "value" edition cars to pull stuff like that. Thanks for the input.

On a side note, and not to get things off track, but does anyone know of a precut sound dampener kit for an 01 protege?

100% sure.

crutchfield might have some speaker damper sheets, but i doubt you'll find a protege specific kit.

i have the es, and i only have 4 as well. theres nothing in the rear door

Hmm well that would explain my confusion. Looks like its time to learn how to wire crossovers. Thanks for the help, looks like I got lots of reading to do :)

I have a 00 DX and installed speakers and tweeters and have them running off the rear channel
