2nd test drive today

Its probably been a month or more since my first test drive of the mazda 5, and I wanted to do another test drive to reaquaint myself and wife, with things we noticed on the first test drive and other feedbacks we have had.
I think its always nice to get an opportunity to have an initial look at a vehicle, take a little time and then try it again.
As an aside, and dont kill us, we went and test drove a malibu maxx yesterday. Surprisingly that little car, has a lot of room in it, has great acceleration and handling and a lot of standard features. I know its a chevrolet, but we know some people who have gotten them, and they love them, with gas mileage on the higway of over 30 miles.
But alas, quite not enough room or panache for us.
We went today, to a different mazda dealership, then the first one.
We didnt let on, that we even knew that much about the car.
Anyway, we were looking at the car, and finally I ask a salesperson, if he had any tourings in stock, since the one on the floor was a sport. He said he did.
I said this is a very nice car, and I am interested in a test drive. He asked when are you interested in purchasing a new car. I said withing the next 7-10 days. I am waiting for the financing to be be approved by credit union, and then I will be ready to come in next saturday and actually purchase car.
He said great. He asked the sales manager and we were told, there were no vehicles available for a test drive today, we would have to make an appointment and come back on weds or thursday. I told him, I drove thirty miles out of my way, because they are open on a sunday, when it is easier for my wife to come to a dealer since this would be her car.
They tell me then, they have one but its a stick. I say I drive a stick, but the wife does not, and besides we are buying an automatic and I want to feel it in automatic mode.
They say sorry, call us up and comeback another time.
I politely say , no thanks, there are three dealers closer to me, but you are open today, and I know you have inventory of the kind we are considering.
We start to head for the door, and we hear the salesman say wait a second. We turn around and lo and behold, there is a vehicle right outside we can test drive.
Now I dont know what kind of games they were playing when they had one all along to test drive, and trying to make me come back. We are very decent looking, and I happened to have a suit on, because we were coming from a church function, and they saw us drive up with an one year old acura tl.
Well thats all for that.
We were given the opportunity to take a nice test drive, with the salesman in tow(very nice and pleasant fellow), and it was good because he was a big , big guy, and the extra weight would give me a better indication on how the car would drive with additional passengers.
My impressions were much more on a positive note with this mazda then the last. I think maybee the last mazda needed a brake adjustment or wheel alignment or something, as this mazda I tested today, handles great, and break response was great.
All in all, the only major shortfall that I could see in the vehicle, was the totally anemic stereo. I have heard 75 dollar boom boxes that sound better then this stereo.
The second thing I am still not happy with, is I think the gas pedal is kind of small and the brake pedal is too close to it. I have a slighly larger then average show width size, (I look for a shoe or sneaker that says wide, or ee), and I find that when I lift up from gas,to switch to the brake pedal, the front left side of my foot is brushing against the brake pedal. I am sure I would get quickly use to it and make the adjustment. I dont know why so many manufacturers are doing this, when clearly very few people drive a vehcile like this in a heel and toe racing style.
So, that was our experience today, and hope to join the club, withing the next two weeks or so.

We also fell in love with the pearl white. We think it changes the entire look of the vehicle.
So now, we have to decide on getting the touring or the touring gt.
I am not a leather guy, but my spouse says, its easier to get in and out of the car when your wearing a dress with the leather. I dont really need the heated seated seats or the xenon headlights, so it turns into an expensive leather seating. LOL
I will need to crunch the numbers and see what I am willing to spend.

Stay safe

I wouldn't buy the GT just for the leather... only if you really want the Xenons or heated seats too. Especially if you have to stretch cash more than you thought to get it.

I have no idea why they were dicking around with you so much for the test drive. I guess to gauge how 'serious' you were in buying one, but when you roll up in a 2005 TL?! Either way, IMO that's a crappy way to treat you... acting like they don't have one available until you threaten to leave an lo and behold, there one is.

I also think the gas and brake is too close together... my sneakers are fine but my work shoes have wider soles so I have to do more toe driving. I've gotten used to it though.

FWIW, my dad's a GM service manager and he's told me on more than one occasion that Malibu's are one of 'those cars' that is simply a complete pile of crap. Don't buy one. ;)
