2200 RPM idle?

Hi,

Got some problems with my idle. Car is 100% stock, 28 000 KM (17 500 MI). It idles at 2200 RPM until it gets warm. Funny thing is it began to do that about a month ago, when our cold weather started to warm up.... Idled nice and smooth all winter. It's annoying to have the car run at 2200 RPM whenever I press the clutch. Anyone have a clue or solution for me?

Thanks

Simon

It seems that is just what our cars do. Sounds pretty normal. The engien idles high until it can get warm.

Yeah, that's normal. There is a way to adjust your idle RPMs (some screw near the throttle body), but then your warm idle RPMs will be even lower than they are now. If you don't like that high idle you can get new ignition wires from Sparcko or Magnecor, supposedly they make your ignition connections more efficient and lower your overall idle.

seems odd that your car has just started doing this....my car has done it since the first day I drove it home and it seems perfectly normal to me.....its called an "automatic/electronic choke" and it causes the engine to idle high until it starts to warm up.

perhaps you just never noticed it before ;)

eez normal meng. gets it up to temp so that emissions are low.

When mines cold i notice it revs at 1600, then warms up to 800...2200 seems a bit high

that's what i was going to say...even when mine is cold i've never idled that high...anybody else ever idle above 2k??

same here in michigan (it gets cold here...) in the winter it will start at 1500 until warm then drop to 700ish. same in summer.

mine will go up to 2.2 initially then settle down to around 1.7 or so quickly, then gradually go down as it warms up.

its normal to idle high, the engine is trying to warm the oil and water up. mine (with the new intake) idles around 700-800, it used to be around 1000 before i got the intake

, theres a screw neear the throttle body that holds a wire to that little piece that opens the valve. if you loosen it up ever so slightly and slide a little of the wire out, itll idle lower. just play with it til it gets where you want it

2200 is not normal idling...I started mine at -40 and it still was idling at 1600 and slowly went back down to 800.

I'd bring it back to the dealer if i were you.

normally mine idles at a little less than 1k.

but sometimes right when i start it up it jumps up to 2000-2300. it normally goes down in like 10 seconds but the entire time i've had the car its only did that like 5 times

Mine's idled that high before..around 22-2500rpm, but that was when it was 30 below outside.

As I suspected, there WAS a problem. I got a CEL yesterday, so when I got
home I resetted the ECU and today the car idles between 1400 and 1600 RPM
until it gets warm, which is much more normal to me (the CEL is gone also!).

Thanks anyways for the inputs

yeah it is just a cold weather thing. Cause the weather around here is warm now and mine isnt doing it.

has anybody figured out a way to have warm idle normal and cold start up idle alot lower...
ive got too mbany motor issues to afford that dry 2000rpm hit.
