Will a 215/50/17 tire fit on the stock wheel fine. I know a 215/50 fits the wheel but will there be any rubbing any where? Car is not lowered it is completely stock. Car is 2006 Mazda 5 Sport.

It will fit and plenty of room to spare. I am running on 225/40/18 stock height with no rubbing issues. check this thread, you will find it very helpful with all your rim/tire inquiries.

I'm glad I saw this thread, I'm about to go with 215's as well. I'm wanting a little more tire and that'll give me a tiny bit more sidewall too. I've hit some pretty good road inconsistancies that have jarred my 5. Maybe a 50 series is too short for a minivan.

I had the 215/50/17 mounted last weekend. Fit just fine obviously. I think they look better on there compared to the 205/50/17. Ride is excellent.

Since the 215 is about 1cm taller, is there any noticable diff in the speedo?

how is it 1cm taller if it's the same 50 series and the same size 17's????

Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought the 205 and 215's is regarding the width not height???(scratch)

The "Series" of the tire does not denote a specific height, but rather a specific ratio of width to height.

For example a 205/50/17 tire, 50% of the width is the height.
a 205/75/17 tire, 75% of the width is the height.

Therefore, going from a 205/50/17 to a 215/50/17 would result in an increase of sidewall height from 4.0 to 4.2 inches, and revolutions per mile from 804 to 792 resulting in a 1.6% lower speedo rating. Which according to my individual speedo calculations, would make my speedo MORE correct, since my speedo with stock tires reads a little bit fast.

Here is a great site to calculate tire / wheel size changes, and other informations such as revs per mile, sidewall height, etc.!

Thanks for the verbose explanation, I was too lazy to do it.

I would like to see some pics of the 215's, if anyone has them.

Also, going to 215s would give a little more bulge in the sidewall, and therefore hopefully protect my rims a little more for when the wife drives it. She's already curb rashed one of the wheels(notcool)

Thanks for the play-by-play... learn something new everyday....

thanks to the link i found out i'm very close to oe specs on my 225/40/18... I kinda wondered about that... (burnout)
