2021 CX-5 Rusty door hinges

I noticed all door hinges seems to rust. I live in San Francisco and this was purchased new. When new I didn't notice it. Does anyone have similar issues?

- Wonder if its covered under warranty?
- Will the warranty solution have same issues later?
- Or should I just touch it up?

Visit a good dealer and submit a claim. Keep us posted. You are still under the rust warranty for a 2021 model year.

I would doubt this little surface rust on a door hinge will qualify for any corrosion warranty coverage. That's for body panels rusting through. Perforation.

If it were mine and it bothered me, I might take a little sandpaper to it and a dab of paint and be done with it.

Just remember, if you have a dealership take things apart, there's no guarantee they won't make things worse or cause other problems. To me, it wouldn't be worth the risk of having other problems to fix this.

Yeah I felt the same way. Sandpaper and touch paint with credit card and grease the hinges.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing is one of the downsides of living in "Baghdad by the bay". Especially if you leave your car outside at night! ☹️

Haven't heard that in years. Wasn't that the phrase used by Herb Caen from the SF Chronicle. I still miss that newspaper. Cheers.

It does get foggy at times and I only drive the car once a week so yes I barely open the doors so maybe that adds to it. But it does seems others on google has same issue though.

The hinges on my 2018 are WAY worse. But I live in a much different climate. It's all cosmetic though.

I'd recommend an iron removal spray like Iron X. You spray it on, let it dwell for a minute or so (respray if needed - do not let it dry on paint or any other surfaces), then rinse thoroughly with the garden hose and wipe dry. It should neutralize and remove the rust stains. Then, just spray some 3-in-One oil (do not use WD-40) on the hinges periodically to help stop the rust from reappearing.

This^ Or use some white vinegar or 'Barkeeper's Friend' (mixed into a paste) instead of the Iron X. Both are mild acids, and will have the same effect as Iron X or other phosphoric acid solutions, yet are much milder/less caustic than the latter. Wipe off and spray with WD40 to keep the moisture away.

Just use vinegar straight. The 'mix' was for Barkeeper's Friend (which is a powder).

But wipe it dry as soon as you can after waiting 15-30 mins, and then spray WD-40 immediately after that to displace any remaining moisture.
