2018 CX-5 warmup rpm issue

:
2018 CX-5 GT
Hello, I noticed when starting the car after it had sat overnight in the garage or when starting the car after work (idle for 8 hours), the tachometer will rise to 1500 for 30+ seconds before falling back down to around 750. Please see attached video for example. I don't remember this always happening and thought it was the cold weather causing it to warm up but I noticed the revving issue still occuring even when it has been sitting out in 70 degree weather. The other cars I have does not do this and I also don't remember this being an issue when I first bought the car.

Sounds normal to me, mine does the same. and has since brand new. I'm not sure of the exact rpm numbers though. This has something to do with warming of the cat for emissions purposes.

I believe that it's spelled out in your owner's manual.

2016.5 CX-5 GT AWD, here. It also follows a cold-start warm-up process. Initially, it'll head to ~1300rpm or so, then once it's warmed up a bit it'll drop down to ~1000, then when warmed more it will drop to ~800rpm (normal idle). When seriously cold, it'll be a bit higher, and take a bit longer. Whenever the blue indicator light's on, it'll do the higher-RPM thing. If I've just come back from an outing and the engine's warm, if within ~20mins or so I restart for the next trip then it's quite likely the engine's warm enough and it won't be above the normal 800rpm idle for more than a few seconds.

As others are suggesting, it's typical warm-up behavior.

Now, if idle's rough or bouncing around (aside from this normal warm-up RPM step-down sequence), quite likely there's a sensor problem somewhere.

get your O2 sensor clean up or replace and the problem will be solved.
Mazda CX 5 Oxygen O2 Sensor Maintenance Cleaning. LOW IDLE Issue FIX.
I'm not having a low idle issue but a high idle issue that comes back down to normal idle. Is this normal for everyone else's CX-5?

Yep, that's what mine's always done. I think it's described in the manual.

Yes, we know that you're questioning the high idle, we read that in your post, and I believe that most, if not all, of us understand what you're asking. We are ALL speaking of the high idle and we're telling you that it's normal.
