Hi All,
First off I have to say thank you for all the great and helpful advice that's on this forum from the forum members...
So, because of your suggestions, I have recently installed a Curt, class III hitch, 2" receiver. I'm preparing to get the wiring all done and having challenges figuring out what I need. I have a GT, AWD trim so it comes with the towing package prep. I've read that it's best to get the OEM wiring harness (part #00008EN13B) and I can plug and play. But I'm confused about how to accommodate the brake controller wiring. I know a tent trailer (which is our target towing item) - as do most trailers I believe - have that round 7 pin connector. I know you can buy an adapter that you can tie to your hitch so you can plug in your trailer lights harness from the CX-9 and then hook up the trailer. But how does the brake controller fit into all this wiring work?
I read that a fellow forum member had modified the OEM wiring harness to accept a brake controller but there were no details on how this was done. So do folks know how this is done or another method on how best to get wiring for both trailer lights and brake controller? I'm assuming that all this will somehow funnel into that 7-pin adapter. But I'm not sure how this is all done.
Any detailed explanation on this would be so helpful - as you can see, I'm totally new to this trailer business.
Thanks!
